Hello Everyone! Super stoked on just getting my 1997 Land Cruiser Prado imported from Japan!
67,000 miles
RHD
TX Limited Package.
4x4 Diesel with 1KZ engine.

I love this car and i really would love to know if there’s any first maintenance steps/tips i should take to ensure this beauty runs forever. I’m the second owner (First in the US) and I’m so impressed how well the first owner kept the condition of the car.

I reside in San Diego, California and love taking this on a drive along the coast. I’d also love to know if there’s any clubs/meets with land cruisers that I can attend, would love to meet the community out here!

The really important thing to know is that the 1KZ is an interference engine, which means that if the timing belt snaps your engine is essentially scrap.

The recommended interval is 5 years or 100k km, whichever comes first. And don't forget the idler. Likely your car has a sticker on the timing belt cover showing the last time it was changed.

Here is quality source for you. I also highly recommend changing the water pump. You are in there anyway and the pump is not expensive, and likely never has been changed. Keep the original as a spare. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I am getting a 1997 Prado KZJ95 TZ next month. It has 97k miles on it. I have the maintenance records below. I will be getting the lower ball joints replaced when I get it but I would love to know any other maintenance recommendations you guys might suggest.

I'm more familiar with the1HZ but I believe most of the same things apply. Replace timing belt and tensioner immediately. Maybe do the water pump and look closely at the oil pump. I personally would definitely at least do the water pump. It is an interference engine which means that if your timing belt goes it is a pretty messy affair. Normal interval for these belts on the 1HZ is 100k km or 5 years, whichever comes first. If yours is a JDM you may see something written on a sticker on the timing belt cover.

Head over to the diesel forum and do a little searching on your engine. That should help. Also guys over there may be able to help you find a suitable shop in your area. The Toyota diesels are not common. They are pretty straightforward but not a lot of US shops have fiddled with them.

And congratulations!
