need to run a line lock... can they be tapped to accept metric threads

I need to run a line lock. Most the kits out there (JEGS etc.) are all standard thread. Can the threads on a line lock be tapped to accept the metric threads from a cruiser? Or would it be easier to have special brake lines made with one in metric and the other standard?

Flare on the correct SAE fitting. I looked for the proper metric to SAE adapter and did not find one. Depending on how much your shop wants to flare fittings you may want to buy a tool and do it yourself.

I've had conversion brake lines made for just a few bucks.

Tapping seems like a bad idea IMO.

I added a GM master and a proportioning valve for my rear brakes. What I did was buy a double flare tool from Harbor Freight (dirt cheap). Then I bought some standard thread 3/16" brake fittings from a local performance shop. I cut the end off my stock hard lines, removed the original metric fitting, slid the new fitting on and reflared the end. It was actually way easier than I thought it would be. I bought a 12" premade brake line to cut and test a flare on first. The first flare I goofed up by over tightening the second step so it was good to practice once before I made a real flare. I also bought a cheap bender from Harbor Freight. It works great, but the radius is too large in my opinion.

I'll pick up a flare tool either from Harbor Freight or maybe a club member has a spare I can use. Thanks for the info guys

just rent a flare tool from the autoparts store when you pick up the SAE fittings. Autozone rents a decent OEM brand one that works well for free (you have to put a deposit down).

Hey! Your that guy from my 4x4 mag, in the readers rides section! I would have custom lines made...

Dan, no offense to the OP, but please don't use a cheap double flare tool. OTC makes a good one for about $35 and I had no problems with it, but the double flare can be a little tricky. Most parts stores will "rent" you one like said above. Go that route. JMO

or buy these from Swage-Lok.

But look out for the DOT police. They'll hunt you down and lock your arse up from what I have been told by some people here. And if you read it on the internet it must be true.

That's cool stuff. Way to much on thier web site. happen to have a p/n?

So how do they work? Just cut your tube and side one of those bad boys on with no need to flare or do they still need flaring?
