My daughter hit a parked van. The impact was just outside the frame rail and the TJM bumper folded like a napkin. The impact snapped the steering shaft. I need a new steering gear so I can get it mobile again.

Take some pictures of the damage on yours I have an extra box in the garage.

WOW. i hope she is ok. Very unimpressed with the TJM bumper protection.

What is the plan -- fix it up or turn to trails?

Gary if u find a 60 or 62 box fits call me. Otherwise we can hit junkyards here for u. I would try car-parts.com as well

thanks for the thoughts, I will look around. I should have said she is ok. She only scraped the frost off of half her windshield and then drove towards the rising sun, Said she did not even hit the brakes becasue she did not see it. The 3/4 ton work van was full of stuff and she pushed it 11.5 feet.

Both vehicles are totaled not because they cant be fixed but because of the repair value. I think I will buy it back.

Do kids ever stop being expensive??

I asked for pictures of yours because I would like to know if its in rebuild-able condition before I sold mine.

My box is in great shape no leaks mileage is unknown.

Let me know if you're interested, pm preferred.

This shows what a cruiser loser I am. I have been out of the cruiser loop for so long I did not even know a 100 series steering gear mod was. Now I know.

I really need to go cruising more.............

Good to hear she's okay. The TJM and ARB bumper wings aren't very strong and fold like a napkin as you mentioned.

It's not really a 100 series sector shaft, technically it's a 105 series and is a slightly larger diameter (i.e. no taper in the splined area relative to the main shaft). The straight 100 uses a rack and pinion and the 105 runs the same front end as the 80. I don't recall the price for the sector shaft but cheap it ain't and you'd still need a new pitman arm. Unless you or your daughter plan to wheel it hard just find a leak free mid mileage steering box on car-part.com or the like and swap the whole thing out. Occassionally you can find complete steering boxes on MUD for ~$100+ shipping.

IIRC the 60/62 series box doesn't work because the 80 pitman arm is installed 180* from the 60 series.

Just an observation it appears as though the sector shaft was already compromised before the accident, rust in the cross section.

Gary have you received the goods yet? I am happy to have helped you out, the box I sent is in great shape. When I saw your post I almost selfishly didn't say anything because I wanted to keep it. Let me know when you get it.

Parts required for the 105 swap.
kit is 04445-60050
shaft 44111-60060
arm 45411-60360

These 3 parts run $430 from Akella search "105" in Parts for sale. (I think smart shopper price is ~$500)
I will be doing this modification shortly.
Also I have been in contact with scotia, he rebuilds/sells these regularly, on mud and will set you up with a bolt on box for $690 shipped with a $250 core.
