I have a recently imported HDJ81 from Japan being worked in Chemainus by Rob Milson. The truck has non-DOT tires. The tires I want to buy are not available for 6-8 weeks - Cooper Discover ST Maxx. I am wondering if I can borrow a set of 16" wheels and tires for a few hours to pass the vehicle inspection?
After that I will put back on the Japaneses tires until the new ones are available.

Anyone out there that can lend some assistance??

Congrats on the purchase Glenn. Wish I had some spare wheels for you, but can't help there.

Can you share any details on your new rig? 1HDFT? H151? locked? Is it going to complement your BJ74, or replace it? Hope it works out well for you.

The 15" wheels I don't think will clear the big calipers. Need 16" wheels
It a 1995 HDJ81, locked, 24 valve, winch, heated seats, 118,500 km.
Its needs new tires - the Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx - 6 to 8 weeks out.

St Maxx 255-80R16.webp

Pretty sure your right on that one.. larger rotors and calipers..

Electronic or non, I seem to remember there being a few months between these two engines.?

1995-1997 80s are FT - 100s in 1998 are FTE

Ahhhh...memory sucks, customer must of told me a few years...

We had one in the shop many years ago, it was peppy smooth and seemed to smoke a lot less( if at all) than the 1hd-t..and the customer claimed better fuel economy..I still see it running around Nanaimo, guy is a captain on the ferries.

I've got 15s also. Guy at Renolds school with a light green 45 had some spare 16s a while back. Don't know if he's still got em.

Not much help, I know, since I don't have his contact info.

are they 6 bolt Toyota 17" or the newer 5 bolt design.

Did you ever get the tires and wheels you needed. I'm home. I've got 17" Toyo's and I've got
15" 33/12.5R15 Bridgestone Duellers on a set of rims that are actually holding a set of BJ74 axles
off the ground - no clearance issues with these rims and tires. Let me know.

I swapped my BJ74 35's on for inspection - so all is good. Thanks for the offers.
