Actually it goes like "I HATE it when I get what I asked for instead of what I needed!" :bang:

Fact of the matter is that Toyota always supports component systems much longer if the component system has been around for 10-15-20 years.

The 3F-E was a stop-gap measure engine that Toyota engineered on the fly because the engineers on the 1FZ-FE program hadn't completed the necessary modifications to configure the 1FZ-FE engine for automobile applications. There was also the issue of making sure Toyoda Industries could create the tooling necessary in time to mass produce the block and then put the engine together.

The 1FZ-FE was designed in the mid-late 1980's. Think about that--and had been operating in industrial applications for a number of years before Toyota even decided it would be a good engine to put into the Land Cruiser platform.

The situation remains that 3F-E support will disappear much sooner than later.

For a "stop gap" they made it the best petrol motor that has been put in a Land Cruiser.

Doubt it. But you can keep day dreaming.

I guess if you consider 200 series a Land Cruiser then you might be correct. Otherwise my statement stands.

I can't think of a single engine that can best the 3FE's ability to burn the most possible gas while developing the least possible power....:)

Because 12 mpg vs 13-14 mpg is a huge difference.

If I'm buying an 18-20 year old vehicle with an unknown maintenance history, I'd much rather buy the 3FE over a 1FZ-FE...

One point to ponder is 3FE parts support is all but gone.

Just sayn':hmm:

Understandable. Still take the 3FE. What is support like for the 1FZ-FE?

Almost everything is still a good-to-go.

One could argue because of the need for those parts...

Personally, I base my statement of the 3FE being the best petrol motor Toyota put in the Land Cruiser on reliability, not parts availability when it fails...

Except for fuel pressure regulators, fried EFI relays and so-on.

Oh, the fuel pressure regulator is discontinued. :(

I relocated my EFI relay inside the vehicle. Only had issues with it twice prior to relocating it. Popped in one of my spares I carry with me ($10ish, still available OEM), fired right up. Fuel pressure regulator available aftermarket...

Knock on wood, I have no issues with my fuel pressure regulator. (And I'll blame this discussion if it goes tomorrow!)

Speaking of issues known for failure. Is the 1FZ-FE wire harness still available? I thought I saw they are almost gonzo. That is a known issue (melting by the EGR) you would think they would be making money on those.

Hello Cruiserdan, I need the throttle cable that runs from the intake manifold to the black box on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

The part number at the top is a transmission kick-down cable. Is that what you need or is it an accelerator cable?

YES I DO HATE THAT! That's why it is so great that you are the mind reader that you are!!! hehehe

"Don't you hate it when you get what you asked for as opposed to what you actually wanted or needed?"

I've heard that before sir.

:)

Actually, the best petrol engine that Toyota has put into a Toyota Land Cruiser is either the 4.7L or the 4.0L 1GR-FE Engine

Is that the 70 series (and FJ Cruiser) motor? May be a good motor. But not available in NA correct?

Hello Cruiserdan, I need the throttle cable that runs from the intake manifold to the black box on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

The part number for that one is 78150-60010. Sadly that cable is also discontinued but at least you have the correct number.

CruiserDan - THANK YOU on the corrected part number! 78150-60010

Beno, are you talking to CruiserDan about his 70-Series as I do not own one of those yet. Maybe in my dreams or in 1/10th scale will be my reality.
