I'm tired of crushing the quarter panel under the tailgate, preventing it from opening. I've gotten pretty clever with the repair - but still- its ANNOYING. Need some ideas to shield the corners that you can see take a beating. Goal is to make it light, yet stiff. The truck is heavy enough as it is...I don't want 200lb hanging off the tail. Don't need or want qtr panel bars. They're just gonna get snagged on stuff.

Luke's kit is a decent starting point and I recommend it to customers often. It'll likely be the path I head down. But I'm all ears to hear of any other ideas for high and tight. And kits to build on or pre-fab is a huge win for my negative free-time account.

Something I've mulled over for a long time.

My plan is tubular, a Tacoma tube rear bumper I'm gonna cut up and work. Later I'll grab a picture of it.

Look up @Broski 80 series build and what he did to protect his quarters. Lots of detail in his build thread. May give some ideas.

Just a single lower tube like he has to protect lower tailgate and weld the lower part of the quarters to it?

I'm really familiar with Rich's truck. Very clean. Seen it in person several times.

Tube may happen. Im hunting ideas for now. Something needs to happen soonish though.

Bump for that pic.

This is about as simple as it could get, and I like it as a base.

Here's what I did on a 80 I use to have. Super simple and inexpensive. Was welded to the frame at the rear and on the sides to support the wings.
