Just ran into the same problem and was able to get in unlatched with a coat hanger. Just make a hook and run it to the release tab at the back of the latch and thread it through the hole in the tab. If you look on angle from the driver side headlight you can see the tab through the notch in the latch where the cable is suppose to pass. Pretty hard to photograh so sorry for lack pics.

Thanks for the help folks, my wire came lose and thanks to this thread i was able to fashion the "ultimatebonnetopener" patent pending device.
Hooked it in and fished the control arm to release.

Bumping. Anyone have a pic of where the hood release cable attaches under the spring?

as you can see on the bottom pic the plastic lock is broken off, but the tension of the wire seems to hold it in place.

Great pic dude, very helpful! Looks like I’m unable to get the little plastic piece in the slot without removing the unit or loosening it so I can get the plastic piece in behind it.

Cheers

It’s just two small bolts. I unbolted mine to take the pics. Takes a minute. So long as
the wire fits thru the slot. Might have to get creative with pair of pliers. Thanks for making
me take it off. Looks like some spray lube and anti rust preservative should go in there.
No time like the present.
