Took Rad in for minor leak... looks like 25 years is near end of life. Anyone got a good replacement option?

Toyota part number if that helps.

Toyota has them as Obsolete. First they made me dig out a VIN, then they told me it should be 17 characters, and next they informed me they can't get them.

I've called around and checked my options... going to recore it again. Last one lasted 25 years... hopefully so will the next.

Considered the eBay aluminum options, but they seem to have mixed reviews. For not much more, it'll be done.

Toyota Obsolete parts counter...

I needed some rockers for my 3b a few months ago and was told they were unavailable. So I said does that mean you can't get me them?... and was told by the guy that they just were out of them in North America and had to order more from Japan. Which I had them do but they told me I had to pay up front and they wouldn't refund me if the part was wrong. Took about 2 weeks

Went on a couple web sites only to find out no one has stock in North America for BJ42s, really wanted a factory new one.. Wonder if I should check with Beno or Dave Stedman.?

Doesn't anyone rebuild radiators anymore?? I can state I wasn't comfortable going into
Island Radiators in Nanaimo a few weeks ago, so didn't get the work done I was in need of.

Townside Automotive $455 to recore. They pointed out all the ways theirs is better than the last one (which lasted 25+ years).

I was happy with the repair they did on my rear heater a few years back... so fingers crossed. They seem to be the only show in Victoria. Alpine does some in LANGFORD... or so web rumour has it.

If they do decent work, sounds like a good price to me. Good time to do a thorough flush and clean
of everything. How's the water pump?

Alpine does recore/repair. I have had a rear heater repaired there two times before I gave up on it.

Putting in a new water pump (still was good, but 20ish years old). Replaced thermostat recently.

I'll run the garden hose through the block before putting the water pump on... as with the heater cores.

It's also getting a new timing chain since the old one had about an inch of play in it
While apart, a new Crank oil seal and a splash of paint.

Townside fixed my rear heater once, work looked good, and it's still holding years later. I've got a spare which needs TLC, but it could be worth it to someone. I'd buy one at Princess Auto if I didn't have a good one.

Picked up the Rad Thursday morning... it looks excellent... good as new.

Got it in the truck. Flashed it up and $h!t new unhealthy noises. Sounds like valve or lifters, but loud and not good. Mechanic friend of mine didn't recognize the noise, but said motor sounds healthy. Also said sounds like Cam/lifter/valve related.

Needs more surgery
