Wow, I go awol for a little while and look at all I have missed. The rig is looking great man. Dont' worry the wheels are not chrome just the polished aluminum, they will fade over time. ;)

Bluto- Thanks man, will do on the report. I think once im off the hwy the SA will prevail over the IFS. Funny though that the latest 4WD Toyota Owner magazine's title is "IFS Rules". Im not going to go over board here, IFS has it's advantages especially for the pre runner guys. And as the mag shows you can get through the Rubicon w/ IFS if your a good driver and have your rig set up right. Buuuuut I have been frothing over at TTORA for years over all the SAS 4Runners and Tacomas, and LC's of course, always wishing I had a solid front axle. So, I finally found the vehicle that has it all. Toyota rep, creature comforts, LOCKERS STOCK front and rear, stout solid axles and and the LC classic factor to boot.

SocalFJ- The dog on the left (above pic) is an Olde English Bulldogge (Winston), not to be confused with the AKC English Bulldog, and the one on the right is a champion AKC Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Sue). I know there is at least 2 Boston owners on here and I can't wait to meet them in person. I love Bostons, I used to have one named Joe Bean.

Slomo- Thanks for the compliments man! I think half of the fun is sharing the updates on this site...

Here is another pic of both dogs...

Funny you should mention Bostons. Tillie my official co-pilot and ball whore. I think she might have Sue beat in height (I am 6 ft tall). :D Dave (SOCALFJ) has the other, Dixie. Look forward to meeting you and the pooches as well.

Winston rarely leaves the ground, but he is able to jump into the back of my LC w/ a 5" lift and 35".....

LOL, I learned early on about their jumping ability when I looked down to say hi and she jumped so high she hit my nose hard enough to make my eyes water.

Still impressive jumping on Sue's part. ;)

gatting back to LC stuff

So I spent about 6 ot 8 hours on saturday installing my pioneer replacement speakers. I put the 6.5" in the front, that was easy. Then replaced the rears with 4" which was not so easy, required a little dremeling of the factory mounts. Thanks to Mud for the write up w/ pics.

I have never attempted anything like this in my life if you can believe it. I gained some momentum and confidence so I moved on to the Scion H/U mod around 3pm and worked into the night. I finished everthing up under the light of a flashlight in my mouth and the map light too. I buggered up the trim while dremeling the H/U and the dash, but its not too bad. BTW it sounds 100x better than before, no skipping, no blown speaker sound, and volume can go much higher. Thanks again to Mud, could not have done it w/ out the threads I read.

While I had the dash apart I also installed my CDL button. When I push the CDL I can feel that it is engaged but there is no light coming on in the dash. I went down to fiesta island to test the CDL and could not get my front and rears to engage/ stop flashing. In addition to that while replacing my dome lights I blew a fuse. So no radio, no clocka nd no domes. Went home and thanks to MUD learned about the dome fuse in the engine compartment. Blew another fuse while testing out my new cigg lighter. I bought the plug just for the sake of compeleting the look of the dash, I replaced the cigg fuse and now im good to go.

I may attempt to take apart the lockers and give them some TLC if I can't get the lockers to engage after doing some more figure 8s in the sand. Im a little afraid to touch something like that though. Anyone in SD done this little maintenance job?

Zach - before you tear into the locker actuators I would check all of your fuses and connections to make sure that is not the issue. Seems like you were blowing a lot of fuses with the stereo install and there is fuse for the lockers that may have blown as well.

When I first bought mine the CDL light would not come on and it was just a loose dirty connection at the differential. Always check the easy stuff first and you will have more time for step #6:beer:.

Wholy crap! i think our dog is a defect! I've never seen it jump like that! That's awesome! Would explain how it got out the doggy gate the one time though!

MaKes sense to me Dan. I will replace the fuse first. Then if I knew where the connections are I could check there too. When you say a connection at the diff, where is this connection. I was wondering what it might mean if the CDL is working but just not lighting up, does that eliminate the fuse possibility, same for the Fron and rear, the lights are flashing, just not staying on solid w/ out flashing, hmmmm. Dan after going out to fiesta and seeing if I can get them to engage and the fuses are dbl checked maybe i coulkd come by for a quick tutorial of the connectors? I am very free all week. I plan on going for my first run to the dez this coming weekend and would like to be able to rely on the lockers. My # is 858-337-5338 if you want to run me through it..

went down to the island and drove figure eights forwards and backwards and no dice. I replaced the 30A fuse thats marked "diff" and it did look to be buned out. Still no light for the CDL and the ff /rr no workie, just keep flashing.

Damn!

Did you do the 7 pin mod along with the switch and are you testing the CDL in low or high range? If you did the 7 pin mod it could be something with the low range sensor at the t-case. If you do a search under lockers not engaging you will find a good thread discussing what to check and in what order for the exact situation you are experiencing. Sorry don't remember the outcome or I would just tell you here. Dan has a very good point to start easy and work your way to the hard fixes as you go. Hope it helps, good luck.

Thanks to SDTRUX

Well y'all I got a little intimidated when it came to this little problemo and took my truck in to Jon @ SD Trux and just want to send out a big THUMBS up a la MUD to Jon for fixing my locker situation!! Thanks to Jon my maiden voyage to Borrego this weekend will be in a LOCKED 80!!

:flipoff2:

Very glad to hear the problem is fixed. But,

WHAT WAS IT? :flipoff2: You can't leave us without closure. :D

left ya hanging eh? ;-)

twas the little sensor on the xfer case like Dan and others has suspected. I was looking up there w/ a flashlight and tried to bridge it and unplug it and just got intimidated to try and resolve it myslef. I will be back to see more of Jon when I need to, very cool dude to do buisness w/. Hard to ever have to deal with a dealership again after the kind of experience you have with guys like Jon, you know. :)

BTW

BTW the maiden voyage is saturday morning around 8-9am I am leaving to Borrego to do up Coyote canyon and maybe one other trail too. I would love for any of you guys to join. Let me know if any of you want to "cruise" along... I have a nice digital camera and will be taking as many pics as I can, anyone need a poser shot for their screen saver??
