Alright guys, picked up the truck this weekend and the frame is spotless, the body is pretty good, most of the rust will get cut out to fit larger tires. Now the biggest issue is the engine, it has a blow 22re in it, but it came with a 22r with 80k on it and an Engine Builder rebuild kit, not pistons or that stuff, but a lot of stuff to freshen up the motor.

Now I can handle everything else on the truck but the engine, I am not well versed in engine, so I was wondering if some of you guys would want to come down some weekend and help me put the 22r together with the EFI parts and swap the motors. I have basic tools and jacks, so I think we could do it.

Let me know if anyone would be interested in lending me a hand, plenty of beer and food will be provided.

I'm clueless, but depending on when it is, I'd be interested in showing up and learning and helping where I can. I can clean stuff. :D

what parts are included in the rebuild kit??...if the 22r really only has 80k on it it shouldnt really need anything other than a timing chain and all new gaskets and seals, does the 22re head need to swapped on?...or just the intake?...measure the block heights and make sure they're the same, i think some of the 22r's have a different height in certain years

The PO already installed a new timing chain setup with metal guides, water pump, it has a full seal kit and new oil pump all from Engine Builder (the guy who knows all the stuff about Toyota motors). The head shouldn't need swapped from what I have read, the 22r donor motor is an 85. From what I have read it would be pretty much an intake swap from the RE to the R.

I have boxes of both the 22r and 22RE parts, everything is there, just needs assembled and swapped.

I posted my willingness to help(caught his post on another site), but forgot about the FSM. I can bring that too.
Never dug that far into a 22r, but people dumber than me do it everyday:grinpimp:

Thanks Sean. We shouldn't have to dig really deep, just replace the oil pump and a few gaskets and bolt some other stuf on, swap engines and plug everything back together in the correct spot :D

I would imagine that 11/24/07 would be out for most people since it is Thanksgiving weekend, maybe the 17th??

84-1/2 was the change in block height. Head from an earlier one will not work on an 84-1/2+. Everything above that should fit though.

Additionally, if you need any minitruck parts, I have a pile of them from wiring harnesses to body panels, doors, interior parts, etc. Nothing in the motor department any more though - unless you want a Supra engine and standalone wiring harness!

Unfortunately, all the PO said was that it was from an 85, I will have to get the tape out and double check. Thanks for the offer on the parts, at this point I really just want to get it running if possible, if everything works out, I am going to put dual cases in it and trim the fenders back to fit 33's or 35's, put a shackle in the back and weld the rear diff. I have all the parts for the above build, just gotta make sure the engine works.

JT, any chance I can bring Eva when we do the work on this? Not sure if there is a built in babysitter for the project ;)

Jeff, Depending upon which day we do it. If we do it on the 17th or 24th, my mom can come down in the morning and then in the afternoon, Dana would be back from her X-ray tech test and can watch Eva and Addy, you could even bring your wife too.

Let me know what works for everyone.

24th is out for me--taking advantage of the long weekend to do some house projects.

We can also talk about it this weekend at the meeting, just gotta line stuff up, ie: babysitter and supplies. Thanks guys

i'll check with the :princess: but i should be able to come over for part of the day on the 17th--to help clean stuff. :D

i'm starting to line up my own next round of maintenance--brake system stuff and tie rod ends.

Another date that would work would be December 8th, but like I said we can talk about it at the meeting. Also measured the head heights last night of the two motors and they are the same :)

Let me know how the conversation goes this weekend--as of now I'm good to help on the 17th.:beer:
