I need some help figuring out the timing on my 2005 LQ9 engine.
I have been trying to get it too start for a few days now, and all it will do is backfire.
I have confirmed that all my coils and fuel injectors are working, and are plugged in correctly in sequence. I have my Terminator X set up for a 24x reluctor wheel, which is what my '05 LQ9 should have. And when cranking I am at about 150rpm which should be right. So I don't think there is an issue with the crank sensor.
At this point I think I am 180* out on my timing.
I watched a bunch of YouTube and searched online, but I am just getting more confused on how to tell if my timing is set up wrong.
I have a stock crank balancer so sadly no degree marks on there. The fact that LS engines don't have external timing marks is criminal. I did order an ATI damper today that has timing marks on it. I also ordered an inspection camera I can put down the #1 spark plug hole to see if its at the top of the stroke.
I am confused about how to tell if I am 180* out with out taking the timing cover off. Is it possible, and if so, how?
If I get the #1 cylinder to the top of its stroke is there a way I can tell if its suppose to be at its exhaust or compression stroke by what the valve are doing?
I really wish I knew some one in my area that was super comfortable with LS engines that could come give me a hand for a few hours.
