There has been a lot of discussion in the last few days among the BOD reps and TLCA leadership as to the direction of the TLCA. Much of the discussion has been focused on being "more inclusive of all Toyota 4WD vehicles" including changing the name from Toyota Land Cruiser Association to something along the lines of "Toyota and Land Cruiser Association". I know that we have Bill (who is not mini but drives a mini-truck) and I don't think (from my limited exposure to Hoosier Cruisers) he feels "left out". How does everyone else feel about this? Do we want the focus of TLCA to broaden to be a Toyota 4WD club instead of a Land Cruiser Club that welcomes other Toyota 4WD rigs? Give me your 2 cents ASAP so I can voice it on the conference call Thurs night.

In case you are wondering, my 2 cents is that the TLCA is a Land Cruiser organization that welcomes others (except Jeeps, I hate Jeeps) and that the Land Cruiser was the foundation and building block for all other Toyota 4WD vehicles. Keep it a Land Cruiser club that welcomes others. Just my 2 cents.

Agree.

I wouldnt mind if tlca put the business end of a 12 ga shotgun in its mouth and put its toe on the trigger.....:meh:

Hey...You said "you NEED EVERYONES input".....

when TLCA learns to focus on it's CURRENT members and member retention, then they'll have something

the focus for the past few years has been on NEW memberships and funding

The name change idea is NOT new, and it's discussion will only serve to drive still more folks away...much like trying to encompass the FJC and mini/tacoma crowd already has. (meaning, TLCA has failed the classic Land Cruiser crowd by focusing their membership goals on the newer vehicles)

Member #1548...I've seen it all.

Damn strait! Bastids! I guess I should be mad at the event organizers that require a TLCA membership to attend. I cant really blame TLCA for taking advantage of, willing to be taken advantage of, Land Cruiser owners.

Coming from the guy with a screen name of 4Runner. Hahaha. Funny!

That's all I get is an eye roll. Haha.

I figured better than that from you!

I guess I should thank you for helping to prove my point....

I'm not a TLCA member and don't know that I really need to be(anyone want to tell me why I should become a member), but I think TLCA stands for Toyota Land Cruiser not anything else. But I do agree that all Toyotas 4x4's are friends.

Although I don't have a cruiser to date, I have not yet felt excluded from any event I have attended. I have no desire to see a name change or anthing else showing inclusion of FJC or mini/tacos. I will remain a member of the TLCA untill someone tells me to GTFO. As long as I know I am allowed membership I'm good with that.

I'm of similar opinion to Woody and Gumby (but some days I agree with 4rnr). TLCA can call themselves whatever they want: I've yet to see anyone from the head office at ANY of the TLCA events I have attended over the last 10 years from New England to Tellico to Attica. No TLCA swag at the raffles. No extra Toyota Trails to hand out to folks. No flyers, nothing. Good thing they manage to mail out a decent member magazine once in a while...and that Hoosier Cruiser requires I pay up...

In the end the name doesn't make folks feel more or less welcome; the people do. There are more important issues involved then what name the car club goes by IMHO.

I only re-uped my TLCA membership this year b/c of the dual TLCA/BRC membership. If I'd known Woody was going to do the BRC thing, I'd have waited and not done the TLCA thing.

I don't care either way. I doubt things will change drastically in the next year, so my TLCA membership will lapse and I'll keep up the BRC.

the TLCA/BRC thing included membership in both...

the MUD/BRC thing did not include a BRC membership, just a donation of your 'MUD membership

The basis for this whole discussion (which appears to have been re-hashed and re-hashed and re-hashed) about changing the name and making everyone feel included boils down to money. TLCA is struggling financially so they think that getting new members will solve that but my feeling is that they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I sent an e-mail out to "the powers that be" and the BOD reps that basically asked "Why doesn't Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A pony up some cash to TLCA for helping to keep '90% of Toyota Vehicles 20 years old on the road today' and use TLCA as a marketing tool to show loyalty, durability and quality of their vehicles?"

BMW Car Club is sponsored by BMW and puts on amazing events. Porsche does the same. Neither of those companies have the funds (or the need for some positive press right now) that Toyota has.

I just don't understand why this isn't happening. Getting Toyota to sponsor TLCA would provide us all with huge benefits (i.e.: better events, better SWAG, better TT magazine, more funds for BRC, more funds to help out fellow cruiserheads in need, the various charities the local chapters sponsor around the country). The question is, at what expense? Being a sell-out to "The Man", Corporate America/Japan? Right now, I think we are being used for Toyota's gain with little in return from them. My '92 80 Series wouldn't be on the road if it wasn't for Hoosier Cruisers, not Toyota. Yes, it's been an extremely reliable vehicle but Hoosier Cruisers stepped up and helped me out, not Toyota. Yes, local dealers offer us discounts but what about Toyota Corporate?

Am I the only one that thinks this way?

where does the money go, that TLCA gets??? dash plaques? They dont produce anything? they dont have a product?

I dont feel like Toyota owes anything to me or the TLCA. And again, why would Toyota support the TLCA. If the TLCA disappeared today I dont think it would matter one bit to Toyota. We would all still be here and we would all still have our toyota's (and yes I DO own an fj62). Hoosier Cruisers would still exist, and your truck would have still been fixed.

TLCA is not some mythical glue holding the Toyota universe together, without which we would all be wandering around licking windows and driving minivans.

I hate to argue with you but would MUD exist if it hadn't been for TLCA? Don't think so. Therefore, we all would probably not have met, therefore I wouldn't have had a place to ask for help (as have thousands of others, TLCA members or not), therefore my truck probably wouldn't have gotten fixed.

As for it making a difference to Toyota or not. That's debatable. And a debate that I don't think is worth getting in to at this point. But BMW, Porsche, Jeep, Hummer, GM all generously sponsor clubs under their brand. Have you ever been to a BMW or Porsche event? Amazing! Professional. First Class.

And TLCA does put out Toyota Trails and also provides event insurance at a reduced rate that the local chapters couldn't possibly touch as well as some (albeit extremely limited merchandise). I think TLCA could do more if it had the funds/backing of Toyota. Just my 2 cents.

Then again, you're probably worried about them wanting to put cameras in Carl's shop or in your 62 and track your every step so they can take away your liberties. Hahahaha.

Mud shouldn't exist. TLCA should have created a virtual meeting place long before Brian did. They were too busy, as now, debating things ad nasuem and having insider political maneuverings to maintain a decent website, let alone create a decent bulletin board. Even if they did create it, they couldn't maintain it or turn a profit on it.

Hundreds of other boards exist without any affiliation with a club. Mud gives far more to TLCA than TLCA gives to Mud.

I've never been to a TLCA sponsored event. They never have any that I can reasonably get to. Their existence does nothing for me except give me a membership number.
