My 74 pig has a later, disk braked axle swapped in. The truck has an AAL lift.

Problems:
1. The steering wheel in 90 degrees off center when the wheels are straight.

2. The d-side shock rubs the relay rod that connects the pitman arm to the drag-link (I think those are the right terms)

Could someone post a picture of a similar pig with manual steering and factory disk brakes so I can see where everything is SUPPOSED to be?

I'm ordering the FSM asap but I'd love to get a jump on getting things adjusted correctly while I have the wheels off to do the brakes.

Many Thanks!

i dont have the man steering anymore, but for the steering wheel, what you'll want to do first is determin the steering gear center THEN, get the wheel straight.

to do this count the turns lock to lock and find the center for the steering gear, dont pay any mind to tires or wheel. once you find the center you can straighten the tires if need with the drag link (across the frame to pass side) and to straighten the wheel you can remove it and put it back on a few slpines over.

as for the rubbing, could be the tire turning too far, could just be a bigger bodied shock than stock. could be a few things.

Howdy! Should be an adjustable section on the rod coming up from the right side steering arm on the knuckle to the right-angle relay box that is under the driver's side corner of the radiator. Loosen the clamp on each end, and with the wheels straight, rotate the center section with a pipe wrench to adjust the roatation of the steering wheel. Post some pics of the shocks. You may have the wrong ones on there. John

So the rubbing shock turned out to be a broken upper shock mount, the shock top was just wired up there and loose, banging the relay rod.

With the wheels off I centered the steering gear (as Rhino suggested) and the hubs & rotors were straight ahead. The steering wheel is still off 90 degrees though, I'll check out what inkpot suggested.

Bigger issue now is figuring out how to fix the Dside upper shock mount, the top tab where the shock is supposed to attach is broken off.

Grind off the rivets holding the old one on. Find one from a wrecked/parted '55 and bolt it on using grade 8 bolts.

Do you still need a steering picture? My '76 is manual steering and it has disc's.

You are correct.

hey there all, I was under the impression the shock towner and box bracket were one piece,?? Input?
