your Green w/ Oarnge tracer stripe is related to this part below ,

i have not run into this topic in a long long time , it was not until i looked into the EWD for your modle year did i see the ( OPT ) lingo there in the rear chassis harness ...

unless you have this switch at the rear of your truck w/ a round plug type oem Toyota trailer option , it has a spring loaded door to it , then your leave the green w / orange tracer alone and as is , the crusty bullet in engine bay was never plugged into anything , it appears since day 1 new car ..

hope this helps ..:):wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench::wrench:

Sorry for the off topic question, but where can I find a diagram like this that has the actual locations of components in the truck?
Thanks
Joe

hi Joe ,

if your asking about electrical components and there locations as it relates to your
FJ40 or FJ55 then your not off topic ...... :wrench: :wrench: :wrench::wrench::wrench:

- you should never forget to always note your year , make and modle Land Cruiser here in the TECH. forums ....

- 1961-10/85 is a long long circa era production date's timeline , all the parts change every few years and so do there locations now and then too.

fyi........

Thanks appreciate it, it’s a 1970 fj40. Replaced the rats nest of a fuse panel with one from city racer, and noticed 3 lights just hanging behind the dash, they look like they are tied to the factory harness but can’t for the life of me figure out where they go.

they look like the Highbeam light? and cluster lights, but looks like you have a newer cluster.

Yep 2 dash lights and a hi beam indicator. Look crusty, clean them inside and out Before plugging them back into the holes in the instrument panel. You can uses a ground wire to test them before putting everything back together. The odd connector socket should be the hi beam

That’s what I thought too, but the cluster has all its lights, and so does the high beam. I thought maybe the turn indicators but they’re in place too. They’re loomed in with the YB wire that goes to the oil pressure sensor.

Vague pic of the cluster. Hijacking a thread can be confusing. Look at the link below. Go to wiring schematics/diagrams and scroll to your model.

Where are the turn signal indicators in the cluster or on either side of the cluster? 9/72 indicators moved to the speedometer face. 9/73 the cluster changed to a round pin plug that is visible in the picture.

They’re off to the side, but there are bulbs in them, and according to the wiring diagram they have the correct color wires. The three extra ones are Rb and Ry, I can’t find anything yet on the schematic showing those colors to lights.

READ THE FOLLOWING VERY CLOSELY:

9/73 the cluster changed to a round pin plug that is visible in the picture.

The picture in post #43 shows a number of pins in a circular pattern, which @Living in the Past refers to above.

The dangling lights in the picture are intended for a pre-9/73 harness. The post 9/73 harness used the multi-pin plug, and printed circuits to provide power to the lights. Look at the surface around the pins and you'll see the printed circuits.

Awesome thanks for the help, the back of the cluster has the printed circuit on it. I’m just trying to get things cleaned up, the cruiser runs but no lights or anything work, been digging up all the electrical info I can and this site and members have been an amazing resource, thanks again!

I think you mean cluster, not harness.

No, I meant harness. The pre 9/73 harness had individually wired lights for the cluster, as pictured in post #43.

The post 9/73 harness had the multi-pin connector, in lieu of individually wired lights.

The OP has a pre 9/73 harness and a post 9/73 cluster. He needs to find a pre 9/73 cluster, or figure out how to adapt his pre 9/73 harness to accommodate the post 9/73 cluster.

@Coolerman may know the answer to that (the possibility of adapting his harness to the 9/73 cluster) off the top of his head.

@Coolerman makes this Nifty OLDER circa. era harness to NEWER Circa Era Cluster Meter Round 12pin barrel connector ,

what somebody did in your truck is install the OLDER wires via 5mm Ring Terminals directly to the copper plated male gauge studs and the blue and copper printed circuit board

i have Never actually seen this approach before ?

the SCARY-FACTOR for me would be how they hooked up the OLDER circa. era 30A AMP meter ring terminal 10ga wires white and white w/ BLUE tracer stripe ??

there FULL ON B+ batter voltage and Nothing to get forgetful about or overlook in ay way shape or form here !!

make DAM sure your B+ positive battery cable is un-hooked and well away of the LEAD post like Away for sure ....

cover the bare lead B+ post with elec-tape and a 2 Littre plastic soda bottle cap

a loose tool like a ratchet handle or wrench can sure as heck get glowing red hot if it finds it a the sheet metal body ,.,,,

see cooler man's link page below here :

below his store page photo are my cluster meter pin-out charts to give you a better idea of what we are speaking about here .....

like mr. @73FJ40 and @pb4ugo have touched on this bigger topic as a whole

I’ll get some pics but yes it looks like they just put eyelet connectors directly to the studs on the back. Ya it’s kinda a mess. I’ll talk to @Coolerman about getting the adapter harness and hopefully new connectors that the previous hack removed. Thanks fellas!

Eyelets are probably original wiring. That's how they were connected to the gauges prior to 9/93. Seeing the harness the two that just snapped in to the instrument cluster the light that light the cluster. The twist in is for the bright indicator.
