Howdy folks...I'm placing my daily driver for sale. I drive this truck year 'round and it has truly been very reliable and enjoyable to me.
Anyone who knows these trucks recognizes they are simplistic and give the meaning to utilitarian.
This truck is no different. It requires a lot of patience and finesse. It drives city street speeds just fine. After all it is 43 years old.
The manufacture date January 1979.
This is a mostly complete, modestly modified, factory original US spec truck with matching engine production number, frame and VIN numbers.
However, this truck is a PROJECT vehicle.
It will require a lot of work to be anything close to stock and safety.
For anyone who is interested in buying this truck I will provide as much of a accurate description so that there are no surprises for anyone.
I bought this truck in the Spring 2018 from Southern Illinois. Before Illinois it was formerly from Kentucky and before Kentucky, it was in Southern Ohio. To my knowledge I believe I am the 4th owner.
I learned that this truck was originally from Ohio when registering the truck back in Ohio. The register pulled the record of it's Ohio past and reported the truck's mileage "exceeds mechanical limits" as it only has 5 digits. The current mileage reads 85k and quite frankly the truck handles like a 85k mile truck; steering, suspension and the engine remains strong. But needless to say this is a mileage estimation only. It has an original clear State of Ohio title.
I will highlight the details on each area of this truck to give everyone a good understanding of the condition this project is in...
Is there any rust?..Yes, a LOT of rust... Every body metal panel has rust; surface, perforation and/or bondo. Most panels have a metal (steel or aluminum) plate reinforcing the tub. The tub attachment points need repaired or replaced. The body/tub will require an extensive rebuilding or replaced.
The truck's body had original factory color Forest Green (#621). At some point it had been repainted a military flat olive green paint. The factory Forest Green paint remains untouched on the trucks interior. The exterior body has decals found on 70s era trucks, which are still visible through the flat olive green paint on the trucks exterior. The factory fiberglass top, typically the off-white, is also painted in the same flat olive green paint.
The frame is entirely original, primarily showing the factory paint and has some surface rust. There is rust perforation on the inside frame rail reinforcement and the frame bracing on the rear crossmember are shot. The rear leaf springs attachment mounts are still strong and intact (these areas often have rot and fatigue in late model years). The rear leaf springs have been replaced with ARB old man emu leafs which provides about a 2 inch lift. The front leafs are original and drivers looks good the passenger leaf looks like it's worn.
The engine is original, without modifications, primarily factory components, aside from the carburetor and radiator. The carburetor has been replaced with a Webber carburetor. The assembly works perfectly with exception of the linkage for the choke. The choke is a manual cable which is not correct. The only problem with this is a very cold morning starts, requiring more fuel peddle pumps than typical. Also the truck has an aftermarket aluminum radiator, which works well.
The engine does drip oil. It does not smoke, although I suspect that it does burn some amount of oil. I add approximately a half quart every 1k miles. And change the oil, 5w30, every 3k miles. The truck still has the original H42 transmission.
The interior of this truck is original. It remains intact but it is worn and torn, the vinyl covers are shot, needing restored as well as the foam cushions. All 4 seats, two front buckets and two rear jump seats are included. The factory original US spec roll bar is still in place. The factory center console is missing.
The truck sports 4runner wheels and the tires are off-name brand military style tred which have less than half the treds remaining. I have the factory original wheels in storage and are included with this truck.
There a small amount of issues (broken items that are not working properly or missing and will need repaired by the buyer) that I will list; side door mirrors (backs split) are floppy, hydraulic clutch leaks at master cylinder, fuel gauge recently isn't working, rear heater coil developed leak (system is bypassed and heater is disassembled), passenger wing window latch broken, windshield washer sprayer missing). This list is likely not complete and I will add items as I discover them.
Please look over the attached pictures and reread the description I've provided. In the event that I have missed something, it was not intentional and I will correct it. I will add the updated information on this post.
This truck gets a fair amount of attention as there's no other like it in this quarter of this state. Unfortunately most people mistake it as a j*** and I often accept these accolades without corrections.
I am offering this truck in its current condition, no warranties, for sale $11,000 US currency.

Does your Cruiser have a name?
Certainly has lots of character. I can see it getting plenty of attention.
Nice description/write up.
Good luck

Looks like the frame is toast.
Nah. No doubt it's gonna need some repair.
The side frame rail (outer) of 1/8+ steel is solid, the inner metal reinforcing section will need welding. These sections are hot riveted together and can be separated to do this work.
The rear gussets/ angle reinforcing that square up the side rails and the rear frame channel are infamous for rotting. Multiple suppliers offer these parts for sale. Likewise these areas are hot riveted as well. Only difference is the shop can choose to weld or bolt these sections together.

Lots of rust everywhere, Seriously GLWS!
