I purchased the 2014 U08 13.1 Navigation update DVD off Ebay.
The Ebay auction notes that this update is compatible with my 2002 LX470.
I located the DVD player under the passenger seat.
I removed the old Navigation DVD and insert this one and I get "No Disk Detected"

Put the old DVD back in and everything works.
Put the update DVD and still get "No Disk Detected"

Is there something I need to do to prep this update or do I have a bad/wrong DVD ????

My 2002 LX470 currently has a working ver.07.1

I thought I had read somewhere on MUD that 2002? MYs and older can only go up to a certain date/version/rev for NAV - and for some reason I thought it was either around 2008 or 2010 max.......

Now that you mention this, I vaguely recall the same.

This is the Ebay auction where I purchased it and it does state that it is compatible:

The Ebay seller is offering to send me another DVD.
I wonder if we are just wasting our time ????

Received replacement DVD from the Ebay seller - no joy, still will not work.

I wonder if this is the issue. My 2002 LX470 works with v.7 of the navigation db but I purchased my LX
from the West Coast. Here in the East (North Carolina), I just purchased the East version of the navigation db.
Perhaps - just a wild supposition - that the nav device has to update West to West rather than West to East?

Contacted the local Lexus parts department and they tell me that there is going to be an update coming out
this October and suggested I hold off purchasing a DVD.

sucks on the DVD not working but that's a good thought - I never thought of that - ordering East v West - as I would order where my location is, but if it is dependent on where the LX was from that makes sense...

Odd that Lexus said that an update is coming out as I thought (probably wrong again) that they wouldn't be updating our NAV systems anymore due to age - 2003 and/or 2000 previous (gen 2/3?)....

I'm beginning to think that to upgrade the Navigation DVD one needs to run
some special software to prep the upgrade. So little information available
about this.

I had an issue with one of the dvd's I purchased on eBay, I'd have periodic read errors. Purchased another dvd from another seller (updatemaps on eBay) and haven't had an issue since. I've purchased two nav dvd's from updatemaps, as we have an 04 LX and a 07 LC, I've been happy with both. Paid $12.87 for each.

For reference, this guy (navigation_pros on eBay) is who sold me the bad disc, he never responded back when I tried to contact him.

I tried that too - purchased two sets of DVDs from two different vendors on Ebay.
The first set would work but often would cause a Disk Error on startup. The
second set complains of No Disc all the time.

Guys just a question if you replace the whole navagation unit and add a new unit with rear camera ,new navigation, Cd etc a pioneer or alpine a you still able to run the climate control of the new unit or no ?.

Probably should create a thread for this. Really has nothing to do with the topic.

I was wondering if the DVD drive was not reading well; but the v7.1 works fine, so it is likely operating okay. My 01LX struggled with a 7.1 upgrade disk with slow response times and erratic or odd routing options when 2 or more stops were added to a trip. It then started giving read error messages, so I replaced the DVD unit with a Gen4 unit that came with v9.1. It reads faster and has been updated to version 15.1 (instead of max of v13.1, E or W on Gen2/3). A bad disc seems plausible, but twice, not so much. A different source may be worth a try. There is a huge jump in data between v7.1 and v13.1 - the drive may not be able to handle the extra load. If you get a replacement Gen4, you will be able to use up to v15.1 for the N.A. data on one disc. My unit came out of an 09 SC.

My Gen 3 with v7.1 DVD works with no problems at all.
(I have a 2002 LX470)
But the new 13.1 DVD I get No Disc Inserted errors.

Sounds like I need to do what you did and find a Gen4 unit.
Is the box with the DVD drive the Nav Unit - anything else needed?
Any idea on what the cost is?
Might check the Junk Yards for a replacement.

Also just FYI because I didn't see it on here. 03+ the update disks go into the drive underneath the passenger seat not in the center console DVD changer. I didn't even notice the drive before since it's under a plastic over. Two plastic screws and the cover comes off. My truck had the older 2009 disk from Toyota for all of North vs the ebay update that is two disks and I think 2013. This may be because the update is so large it is too hard to fit on one disk still. Anyway, I only really need West since I live on the West Coast however I couldn't get it to load. Ejected it and put East in and it worked then switched it out to West and it seems to now work fine. Verified that version 13.1 is now running on my system via touch screen menu by selecting "DVD".

Just curious if anyone has any updates to share. I recently bought a 2002 LX and it had the original navigation DVD installed. A buddy pointed me towards a vendor he used on eBay (Chris_Veal) to successfully update his nav system (Gen 4 to 15.1) and I bought the Gen 2/3 13.1 DVDs. Today I followed the directions: engine on in park, eject old disc, insert new disc (I used the West disc because I am in Washington), and wait for it to install. Installation seemed successful but after the install screen finished I got a Check disk / no Disk Detected error. Ejected, tried the East version, and no install and no disc detected. Because it installed updated software my old disc no longer works. I’ve left the West in the system in case it decides to work and am waiting to hear back from vendor, hopefully he will send me new copies of the discs to try.

It seems like folks who were having errors with the Gen2/3 system and the latest maps available in 13.1 are generally reverting back to using 7.1 discs? Are any of you Gen 2/3 Nav system owners successfully rocking a 13.1 disc - and if so can you see anything in my install that I have already done wrong (aside from maybe buying a cheap disc copy off eBay?).

Thanks! The kicker is I was generally happy with the 18yr old maps, but my area of the Puget Sound has had so much development I figured it wouldn’t hurt to be a little more recent with the nav data.

I tried to update my GPS DVD to U08 13.1.
It worked sometimes but often it would display "No Disc error".
Got to be such an annoyance that I reverted back to U02 7.1.
