Working through some issues on my 12HT. Mostly trying to find an air leak sounds squeal, and get the idle down to normal.

As examine my injection pump, I see that I have some sort of thermo looking device that has a plunger attached to my stop lever. My spare motor doesn’t have this, and my 1985 engine manual doesn’t show it at all. Anyone have any ideas what it is? To me looks like some sort of thermal shutoff, no wiring or vacuum attached so it.

I vaguely remember reading about it here. It is some sort of cold climate special I believe.
It could be that the fuel racks movement is limited to a certain point until the engine has reached some sort of temperature - then the device is pulling back and does not limit the max fuel setting anymore.
Don't count on that though - but I belive cold climate spec. is where you want to investigate.
If the plunger is not touching your stop lever - it is most likely safe to take it away.

but the real function has not yet described....

Hmm. Maybe for experimental purposes I should apply some heat to it and see if it moves
