Well ive been lurkin around here a bit aswell as a couple other forums and seems people are the coolest here on mud.

Figured it was time to start a thread to help keep track of my build and maybe get some expert advice in the process.

To start off my rigs a 79 4x4 in great condition.

Once I got it home the motor had it and didnt want to fire up, dug into it a bit and found the motors trash.

Lookin for a good used or decent priced 22re or 22r just to get it rollin and back on the road.

While lookin for a motor and advertising some stuff for sale I was contacted by someone who wanted a high dollar 1/5 scale rc I have and we worked out a hell of a deal.

Not only will he find me a good used 22r or re but he's building be some tube goodies for my rig.

First he made me a 4 link for the rear out of 1 1/4 heims and 2" x 1/4" dom tubing and thats my first project.

Next hes making rock sliders, front tube/plate bumper, front 3 link, rear bumper, spare carrier and some axle truss.

Said and done it should be pretty capable, im still researching what shocks I want to go with for the front and rear.

Also planning to bob the bed as soon as I can get to it. More pics.

Thats about it for now, just waiting for goddies in the mail then I can start welding and all that fun.

Any tricks/tips and advice is greatly welcome as im no pro.

My goal is to have a fairly capable daily drivin wheelin rig/bug out vehicle so its gotta be able to carry supplies in a time of need.

Awesome truck, I like the flat olive drab. I dig the stunt double too, always wanted to make my truck in 1/10th scale.

Thanks guys, the boomstick is a remington 870 tac cerakoted od green and black with the magpul stock and full of messy home defence rounds, back up after muyp226 .40 lol.

The grille and headlights are off a 83 I plan to take it back to round headlights, funny thing I have a 80 also that had the 79 grille and headlights on it so I just gotta swap it over.

Also the rc is a rc4wd.com trailfinder 2 kit, its a first gen yota with square lights, leaf springs, yota axles and transfer case. Pretty trick little rig lol

A 79 with a 22R in it, and an 83 front clip... Anybody else find that strange. Sounds like it got a lot more than a grill from that 83 to me.

I am guessing that somewhere down the line it got upgraded.

Aside from that, that is one good looking truck. The body has been taken very good care of and is really straight and rust free for it's age.

Look forward to the progress.

Also, the TF is really sweet too.

Hey thanks, I cant wait to get this rig together and on the trails. Still waiting for my links and shocks.

Thinking once its set up I should be able to run some 35's probably going with some destination mt because I get a discount on them.

So maybe you guys can elaborate more on this, ive been getting all sorts of mixed info some folks saying to go with 4:88s and some say 5:29s im thinking 4:88s should suffice for 35s and the 4speed?

Also I plan down the line when I have 2k for it to do a 1uzfe swap and i'll use the 4speed auto then.

So still nothing in the mail but got some teaser pics of my rear 4 links in the making. I guess the guy is puttin on 4 heims and 4 johnny joints, eh its all score for me so im not complaining.

Im bored and need something to do already. Guess I could do some more grinding and cleaning to prep.

I still need to figure out shocks, anyone have some ideas for a noob?

Thinking for low cost going with shocks and coils seperate but will be some extra fab work to get it in. Been looking for a decent set of used coil overs but no luck.

ell been a while since posting anything on my truck. Its been slow going due to a un expected move and still waiting on my friend for parts.

I scrapped the 1uz project for now and am just rebuilding the 22r.

Got a machined block and master rebuild kit from engnbldr and will soon order a street rv head with 268c cam from them too.

Once I get the motor built and installed im going to start driving it til my 4 link and truss come in.

A couple pics of my block in progress.

Been using high temp engine paint in everything this far, thinking of using the same metallic grey on the firewall and inner fenders and the fire red metallic on all tje little bits to just break up the blah thats usually under the hoods of these truks.

Also saw a sas studebaker today.

If it were me, I would button up the timing cover before I put on the head and the oil pan. That way you don't have to worry with trying to slide the cover in between the two and hope it seals.

Motor is looking great.

Parts look great. Washing, sandblasting, painting has been my life for the last few weeks, as I'm prepping to start final assembly. I need that heat shield, mine is rusted in half! :)

I prefer to put the head on first, installing the timing set, so you can be absolutely sure that everything is correct, and you don't have to fight with the tensioner getting the big gear stabbed onto the cam. Then I do the timing cover, and the pan last.

Haha awesome so I guess its a personal preference thing?

And thanks for the uplifting comments, my immediate family keeps calling me crazy for spending so much time on a toyota as opposed to a big classic chevy which they believe is worth more than any toyota, pffff.

Im thinking about going the extra mile and pull the cab off and clean the chassis up and fix the only cancer spot on the truck which is just under the gas pedal.

Motor looks excellent. One day I will get around to Painting the engine. I also put the head on first, so I can triple check the timing set up. Then carefully sneak the cover under the head gasket.
