After my desmog, my Cruiser does not idle up for the air conditioner. Is that a part that can go bad (idle up solenoid?)

all things are possible. But the far more likely explanation is that during the desmog process, the AC idle up system was discarded.

Post a pic of the installed carb & vac hoses..

Ah... makes sence... kind of.
After peeping under the hood some more I noticed my HIC wasn't even hooked up and I am pretty sure it's been like that for almost a year. Just recently it seems it's idled slower than usual. But it's only gotten this hot just recently... Looks like I might have to have to clean that old nasty EGR inlet thingy and fix it up for desmog. I'll stew on this some more.

Feels good to get that stupid EGR cooler off though!

Okay, okay... I broke down and just moddified the EGR inlet for desmog and I've got the HIC and HIA active. It looks like hell, but it's enough to get it out of the driveway until I can work on it next week more. AND until my new gasket comes in the mail. Thanks for putting up with me.

i just tried starting it and it trying to turn over but it wont fully cycle over..any suggestions ?

Um... it needs an air cleaner? will it not crank because of a dead battery?

The air cleaner needs to be set up to crank over? like i said im new to this. Ill put it back together and see what happens.

No. It should turn over without the air cleaner. Your battery is OK?

i charged the batt. for 4 hours and went and cranked it, again it tried but wouldnt fully cycle over and idle. Ill put in my spare batt. and see what happens.

its acting like its ganna turn over and gets preety close, but it wont get to the point where it fully cycles over and starts to idle, its like when your starting the rig cold and it takes a couple of times to get it to idle...sorry about the description thats the best way i can tell you, by the way this is with the choke all the way out.

It looks like the hose from power brake booster is not connected to intake manifold. That would make it difficult/ impossible to start.

PCV hose from Pcv valve is not connected to side of intake manifold. Also a giant air leak, making it imposible to start.

And the manifold vacuum nipple that was in front of the carb is missing. Note the 1/8"BSP threaded hole a couple inches in front of the carb, visible in the first photo particularly. Also a giant air leak, gonna be hard to start.

From Holland a big thanx to you all for this thread. I desmoged my 83` fj60 this weekend. It has so much more power, really amazing! But now I have a knocking (pinging) sound in my engine. Anyone an idea?

Is the engine USA spec?

If yes, then the dissy has too much advance which will cause spark knock in the 1800-2500RPM range. Recurve the dissy or retard the base timing.

Jim, I have this same problem and I have retarded the timing to the point where it just runs like crap. Could there be something wrong with my dizzy? Should I just get it re-curved and go from there?? I have set my timing using this thread as a reference but I am using a cheap timing light.

Goodol, there are 2 problems with the dissy.

First, it is USA spec, so it has too much advance, too soon.

But there is a second age related problem I see in 90% of the dissys now.
The governor pin, which controls/limits to stop and start point of advance is very worn. that means that a dissy that originally had 22* advance (too much) now has 28* advance (way too much). So you are forced to retard the base timing way too far too run good off idle, in oreder too keep that 28* of advance from causing knock at 2000rpm.

That's a rather long winded answer to the question.
Short answer: Yes, it needs recurved.
