Man criminals are dumb. Why choose a built/lifted uncommon vehicle like an 80 series to commit a crime spree? How dumb can you be? So glad they found it, I'm honestly surprised.

They are not criminals, they are Methican Americans.

Illegal gambling establishments, storage unit crime sprees, and plenty of 90's eras 4x4 ripe for the taking. Grand Junction sounds like a Methican American paradise....

Because 90’s anything is easier to steal
So go steal a 90s camry or something even slightly stealth lol.

Well those all sound like criminal activities to me. Whatever distinction you are trying to make they were clearly quite dumb Im just glad the police found it.

Opportunity and availability

Let us know if you ever find out if there was a connection with the roofers doing work in your neighborhood and if they were the same guys who stole it or if that was just coincidence.

Great news Devo! What's the first thing you're going to do to the truck when you get it back?

@cahill, I am doubting it was the roofers. I went to the roofing company and spoke with the owner. All of his roofers have worked for him for more than 8 years. So I’m giving them the benefit of doubt. I‘m hedging that some Methican Americans were casing the neighborhood and just got lucky? They were using the 80 to haul the crap they stole from storage lockers and when the cops found it, it had several mail boxes in it that they unbolted from the ground.

You mean actual, gigantic metal USPS mailboxes??? "Ample cargo space."

Happy to see you got it back!

Yes!! So happy your truck is back. What a relief to get that info, regardless of source. Time to celebrate!!

The mailboxes were the free standing gang type mailboxes that you see at a neighborhood entrance or apartment with the dozens of mail slots.

How soon until you get to lay eyes on the truck?

What a random thing to steal. I guess try to turn in for scrap metal? Every scrapper knows to throw an alert when a Federal USPS box is brought in as "scrap".

It's not like people send cash through the mail anymore.......

That's great news you got your truck back. Hopefully it's not been abused too much. I'm happy for you, what a relief. I couldn't sleep if someone stole my 80. Your OP has been on my mind a lot the last few days. Whew! Good news.

If you get it back, take it to a QUALIFIED Toyota Land Cruiser Specialist to have it evaluated for damage for Insurance to cover things.

If it was taken off road, driven over curbs, run into things, there may be internal damage that is not visible. That needs to be reported and inspected immediately in order for any of it to even have a remote chance of it being covered.

I had an acquaintance in a class many years ago that has his car stolen and recovered. He drove it for two weeks and the engine blew up due to the abuse it got while they had it. It has serious alignment issues because they were curb jumping and joy riding in it. Some of that is invisible and can cost you dearly.

Identity theft.

Glad you found it. We gave a pretty nice 1990 Mercury Topaz to a family friend a few years ago. She had it two days, she still had the spare key we gave her laying under the seat or something, and the drivers door did not always lock (power locks) when cold. Someone strolled into the Walmart parking lot here in Craig, maybe had been watching her, (crappy neighborhood she lived in) and simply got in and drove off. Typically in Craig, we don't always lock stuff up, but jeez. It was reported and all that stuff. That car sat in plain site in a restaurant parking lot all winter about 1/2 block from the Rifle Police Department. Restaurant owner finally went out there and opened it up and dug out the insurance info and stuff that still had our name on it, called all pissed that it had sat in his lot for months and wanted it removed.

Obviously not a high priority vehicle for the police to search for. I drove around town for weeks looking for it. Didn't think it would end up 90 miles away like that.
