Hey Guys, I'm new the cruiser world in the past year! I've always loved and wanted a fj40, so when I found one in Campbell river last Feb I bought it! It needed to be rewired and a body needed some work but was told by the last owner everything else was ok!.........NOT THE CASE! It had a new frame but after I got it home and took a closer look I realized that the guy had ripped me off. The cruiser needed a s*** ton of work. I replaced the front end, window frame and glass, all the wiring, Dizzy, Carb, Alt, Valve work, exhaust, and so on and so on. Anyways its almost done and here are a few pics. When its totally done I'll put up a few more picks. I'm looking to get into a club in the area and was wondering if there are any in the Campbell River area?

Welcome! Nice work on your 40; that is quite the transformation! Definitely looking forward to seeing more pics.

Not sure about who from the club is up Island. I'm sure others will chime in on that...

I did most of the work at a buddies shop on Quadra and those are his toys you see behind the 40. There are several parts 40's and a 45, a nice 1978 40, and a Fargo Power wagon. I tried to get the wagon over and over again before I bought my cruiser, but he won't sell anything. He's the type of guy that holds on the everything and says he's going to restore it. They've all been in the shop for years and will stay there until he's dead! Maybe one day I'll get him to sell them to me.

very nice job!

as for the club, if you've seen any of my rants over the past 5 years or so, you'll know that shawnigan is apparently considered north island.

There's lots of random cruiser folk mid island and north tho, just hardly any that go to vic for the *ahem* "vancouver island" cruiser club meetings.

I'm cruiserless at the moment other than jumbles of spare parts, so it's not a big deal.

I must see 3 or 4 cruisers every day in nanaimo, and I know there's craploads in CR/Courtenay area.

Here are a few before I painted it. I painted it outside! What a day! I had already painted the front end piece by piece. You can see the hood etc in the last shots. I didn't take any pics of all the rust I cut out and replaced with steel. Also all the s*** riveted patches put in by some else. I still have to do a few things to the trucks body, its far from perfect. I just made it better than it was and plan to continue piece by piece. I need a set of doors. The last guy put a bad skin job on them. I would like to put the old style with the small pop windows. I have a perfect passenger side and need a drivers side. I need a set of mirrors, a set of back fold down seats, the list goes on. I also need to paint the interior the same as the outside. So thanks for all the compliments but I still have a s*** ton to do.

Nice.

Looks good without the normal front turn signals, streamlined and more aerodynamic for high speed Quadra Island land speed records.

Quathiaski to the HBI in 4min. flat!:cheers::beer:

Another cruiser member here sold his big brown BJ60 to a guy in CR. Have you seen it around? Its SOA on 38" skinnies and has a nice bit of whistle to its diesel diesel clatter.

Sounds like you know Quadra? My 40 has her turn signals on the fenders now and a bunch more has been done. The pics were taken when I got it out of the shop just after I put her together. I did a few more things before I shipped her off to the mechanics.

I haven't seen the BJ60 you asked about, but I'll keep and eye and ear open for it.

Hopefully I'll have my 40 back from the mechanic soon!!! I haven't even driven her yet. I've owned her a year and done so much to it........but drive it. Can't wait.

Sounds like you know Quadra?

I love Quadra (and the HBI) and the live tunes!
I was part of the enviromental remeadiation crew that cleaned up Quathiaski Cove and the area where the old fuel dock used to be. that was back in 2007 if I recall. I doubt much on Quadra has changed since then. :D

We stayed in a shyte hotel in CR until the nice little Inn near Quathaski dropped its rates for the fall season. Staying on Quadra was great.... people were great too even though we had to work with the ocean tides. People always asked us why we were banging around on the beach at 3am, back alarms blaring, excavators crashing about and then sleeping all day. Some people just didn't get it. I rocked a 23hr shift on that job during a really low tide cycle. Most were cool and appreciative of the work we did there. I often wonder how it all looks now, I'd love to get back and have a look at the foreshore remediation again.

Hijack off.

Well............Maybe the club should come do some off roading in the Quadra area. It doesn't seem like there are any clubs around here that I can join, so maybe one day the VI cruisers will be close and I can get out with you guys?

I've run into a bit of a road block with my cruiser as the mechanic I trusted to do the work, turns out to be untrustworthy. So having it on the road may take a little longer and more money.:crybaby: It sucks. I have to pay a lot of money to get my truck back and its almost the same as it was before. ALMOST. I just want to drive her. :steer:

Hey now. There were a bunch of cruiser owners in Vic when we started the club... I remember a couple meetings at the cobblestone and Ma Miller's was all down hill for you upisland folk. ;)

Here's a pic of her Finished! Well almost!!

Well I had to pay a TON of cash to get her back from a mechanic that screwed me. ( I must have a sign on my back that says "fxxx this guy over" ) Then I had to take her to another mechanic to have everything the first guy did, done over! Now I have her back on the island and driving each day and lovin it. Here's what she looks like now. I still have to do a few things but I think they'll have to wait a while until my bank account recovers. ;)
