This discussion came up down in the Pig area.

We are looking for rubber/weatherstripping options, and someone mentioned that some of the old 4-runners had a moveable (up and down) like the FJ55, and that the rubber along the top of the tailgate was similar.

Can anyone here give us some guidance? If I had an idea of what years, I would hit the local junkyards. and for that matter, maybe that is still available from the dealer/supplier.

Thanks again for any help for the Piggy owners.

Yup, 4Runners have always had a rear window that went up and down, with electrics in the tailgate. The window has to be all the way down, then you can unlatch and drop the tailgate. That design lasted until 1996, when the 4Runner went though a big change and they went to a liftgate style rear hatch. But I believe the window still goes up and down, even in the new ones.

1984-1989 had the removable fiberglass roof, you might want to concentrate on those models.

Just went to Desert Toyota on a whim. The parts girl pulled up a pic from an 88 4-runner, and the computer says there are 30 available in the US.

I ordered one. It was approx $40, but worth it if I can make it work on the Piggy.

Good luck! You may have to widen it... I'd make sure you have a plan before you open the bag though.. If it's totally wrong you can return it... Hehe The 90-95 had a full metal body, so they may mount differently than the 84-89 fiberglass top 4Runners...

Just a heads up. Thanks for the advice.

The 88 4Runner piece adapted extremely well. I had to do some cutting and drilling but the part looks like it belongs there.
