Mounting a cb radio

Thats a nice set up!! and great pics that looks like the way to go i'll have to figure something out fot the antenna since i dont have the rear tire carrier there really nowhere to mount . Is that control box part of the cb set up or is that where you tap into the power?

The control box is part of the 75WX ST. It is a little metal box which has power, antenna, microphone and external speaker connections. It is meant to be hidden. I mounted it to an existing screw under the cupholder. All of the radio controls are located on the handset.

As far as powering the radio, i wired it to constant power from a fuse block that is located under the passenger seat. This fuse block is wired directly to an Aux Battery with heavy cable and 100a circuit breaker. The CB wiring has an inline fuse, that i left for extra measure. The result is that the CB will not turn off, even if you turn the key (ignition) off. This can be problematic, if you forget to turn off the CB. But since it is connected to the Aux Battery, the worst case is that it will drain the Aux Battery. Alternatively, you could tap into switched power and then the radio would turn off when the key was turned off.

Hi,
I have mine temporarily installed hanging from the glove compartment's lid. Just bent a couple of aluminum strips to follow the lid's shape; cheap and easy. It can be disassembled in half a minute when I don´t need ithe radio:

I put some self-adhesive silicone drops on the back of tje strips ans bolts, to prevent them from scratching the lid.
Someday I will install it permanently in the opennign above the radioCD; there is plenty of room.

I plan to install my Cobra 75WX ST in the center console as well. I suppose I'll run it to the aux fusebox too, and have constant power, even though the lazy side of me is saying "no".

another option is installing the control box of the Cobra in the rear of the center consoul...

Did you tap into the 12v power source that is not constant power? I'd like to have constant power but would prefer not to have to run a source all the way from my aux battery (see post above about "lazy").

BTW, that is an awesome location to mount it. I was thinking along those lines too instead of putting in inside the storage area and losing space.

yep, just tapped into what was alreaedy there so it's not always hot. I actually prefer ignition power incase I leave it on...don't have to worry about it.

edit: There are two screws inside the back cover which need to come out

Man how did you guys get that thing off? I can't find those two screws under the cover to save my life... trying to tap that 12v...
