What's under the flap, a standard 110V socket?

Three prong 110v AC outlet. The cover is spring-hinged and weather sealed with a rubber gasket.

Are you going to install this with an inverter? If so please provide pics and details, I am interested.

I won't be installing the invertor as I am still deciding (and waiting on funds) on the dual battery/isolator setup. The invertor will be located inside the quarter panel on the passenger side (where is LC subwoofer is located) and this AC outlet will be mounted on the inside plastic quarter panel, next to the 12V outlet.

Have you installed the cargo area lamp yet? I'd like to see the writeup and pictures if available. Thanks.

So I gather you have not sourced an inverter yet? Keep us posted on that please.

Yes I did install the cargo lamp last week. I am glad you reminded me...I"ll post pics later tonight.

I bought two inverters already. A 1.2kW and a 1.5kW unit purchased from Costco for under $90 each. The 1.2kW will go into the minivan with a single battery and the 1.5kW will fit in the 80 after I put together the dual battery setup. These invertors are not the industrial-grade ones like what junk has. But for my use, which consists mostly of powering the laptop and the occational microwave on a trip, the $90 unit should be fine.

Thanks for the writeup on the rear cargo lamps. I already have the dome light and have been looking for a detailed writeup on the installation before I start dropping the headliner and cut metal parts. I'm looking forward to you writeup!

Please post a pic of the back. Is there a corresponding Toyota pig-tail available?

will post pics. regarding the wiring, you may not know this, but I already have several runs of heavy welding wire run to the rear of the truck. Some goes to the winch, I also have a remote rear jump start terminal back there, aux fuse blocks etc. Will let you know. Bracket is already built and mounted inside. Now it's just a matter of mounting the inverter to the bracket and run the wires.

No time now though..... I gotta wheel :D :flipoff2: :D
Hey Junk
Have you been out wheelin, I want to see pics of how you did your inverter ;)
What guage cable did you run to the quarter panel?
There was a thread earlyer that talked about how the costco inverter stated in the instructions " no longer than a 5 foot run" how did you get past this, are the instructions differant for a better quality inverter?

Those were some great plug ins you guys came up with, but I to want to mount my inverter where the sub woofer used to be (94 land cruiser, 1500 watt inverter from costco) is it possible with such a long cable run?
Hope your summer is good Junk, don't break anything :flipoff2:

I have a friend who has an inverter. He only connects it to his battery when the vehicle is parked. It doesn't take long, and is a small inverter sitting between the battery and the radiator. Only enough output to power lights and a couple of fans.

Steven,

You might consider mounting two 6v Optimas in series behind the RR panel. Robbie has his rig set up like this. You'd still have to have some heavy wires coming back to the dual batteries.

Junk - please take a few pics of the install if you don't mind. Actually the 80s moderator is doing a FAQ thing and this might qualify. :D

I'd be interested in:

- how the inverter is mounted.
- the 12 volt wire routing
- where you located the 110V outlet ect...

Yeh Junk
any chance you could do the above, I am interested to , especialy the wire routing and guage since yours are installed in the rear quarter panels,( long wire run)

I think Junk mentioned before that he has a 1.1kW unit in his 80. I am currently using a 70 watt all-in-one unit to power the laptops and battery charger. I noticed with the Optima battery, the battery tray has a lot of empty space left. I am contemplating mounting a high power inverter (1kW+) in there to power a small microwave oven. Has anyone try putting an inverter in the engine bay? Does it have to be a weather-resistant inverter such as the Vector Marine model? Has anyone mounted a high power inverter inside of their 80?

John

I have a friend who connects his 750 watt inverter only at the locale of need. It spends all the rest of it's time in the box. Of course, he only uses it in lieu of a generator to give electricity to his home when we have a power outage. It gives enough juice to power an electric fan or two and a few lights.

I've been looking for one for myself.

Nope. I ended up installing the inverter in the family minivan to power the microwave. Now that the minivan is gone, I'm working to put the inverter into the 80 again - after I get the AC pusher fan installed.

I keep looking at the picture up above of the Tahoma AC outlet receptacle and can't get past one thing.

It seems to say max output is "400 watt idling, 100 watt runnig."

I don't get it. Why would it have higher output at idle than while running? Is this a translation error or something?

Can that Tacoma outlet be installed on the outside? That would be nice mounted in the passenger side, rear quarter panel, under my ladder. It looks and sounds like it's built for outdoor mounting. That way I could leave Windows and doors closed, and locked.

Believe so. tacos (at least some I have seen) had an outlet in the truck bed.

I mounted mine on the rear cross member. Will cut a corresponding hole in my Slee bumper once I finish up the mods to it.

Canman's dual battery and inverter install

Nothing for nothing...I mounted a powered sub in the passenger side rear quarter and moisture for in and destroyed the amp circuitry...something to consider

Mine (amp) has been in there for years. No harm. That area is prone however to leaking. Check seals, blah, blah, blah.
