Hi Brent,

Henry and I will be there Friday when the gates open. See you up the hill.

Anyone have a campfire in a can?

I plan on being there early too Paul. I'd have said to get something close enough to a campfire ring, but fire restrictions look like my fire tub isn't even enough right now. That's ok.

Anyone have a campfire in a can?

See above. Sputnik won't be enough this year for a fire. Usually an established fire ring is enough and/or a metal fire container. Understand the restrictions tho!

I should of provided a link: http://campfireinacan.com

I have wanted one for a while but the price has been a bit steep. Maybe I can convince my wife we need one for this trip and others when there are no wood fires allowed.

Yea - $250 is steep. Amazon has it at same price and just shy of $300 that includes the cover and a longer gas line that'd also be usable with my Mr. Buddy heater too. This products supplied line is 10' so that's probably plenty. The Mr. Buddy won't last thru a night on a single small propane bottle. That's another debate on CO2, etc. on whether to run one of those all night in a tent - ventilated or not. I never have. On about 10 minutes or so before turning in and then again in the morning to take the chill out of the tent. Longer hose would allow it to be hooked up to the large propane tank on the trailer.

No dimensions on the thing tho! Anybody know??? Would probably fit easily in my trailer which would be a lot more simple than my washing machine fire pit and hauling wood on the roof rack! There's just something about a wood fire that gas fires just don't have. We might have to give up the wood fires here in SoCal.

Compact light weight: Dia.15" x H 10.5". Easy to carry at only 16.5 lbs.

That'd fit in the front of our trailer's box perfectly... but $250... Someone buy my old trailer;)

Stick a for sale sign on it at MR!

Old trailer?

It has more comforts & will be with us for a long, long time. But it does have a bit less floor space. We done an over nighter already and are excited for the Rendezvous!

Oh yeah and those campfire in a cans aren't that hot. :P I was hanging out with two different groups at overland expo last year that were running them and both had an issue with the regulator freezing up long before the bulk canister was empty. It would start off strong then the flame would be super weak. Tapping the bulk canister on the ground made it flare up but it wouldn't burn/stay at anywhere near full power/useful heat output. Pretty disappointing. Not sure if it was elevation or weather related. Definitely doesn't bring the heat like Sputnik does. For such a price tag I expect more.

Ryan, do you remember what size tanks they were using? If it's the standard BBQ, 20lb/5gallon, that is disappointing to read.

I'm pretty sure It was the standard 20 lb tank. One of the groups tried switching to one of those smaller 10 lb ones that people like to mount to the sides of their trailers thinking the tank was empty but still dismal performance. That said there appears to be multiple companies in the artificial propane fire game. Perhaps what I noticed was a combination of really cold weather + high elevation that choked up the regulator and isn't the norm. Anyone looking to getting one should probably get it from somewhere with a good return policy just in case.

I've noticed 'issues' with my big campchef stove at altitude with the 20lb tank on occasion too, but for $250, I'd expect better. No investment here for me!

So it sounds like the fix could simply be a small side campfire to keep the tank warm so one can have a fire when fires aren't allowed......Gotta Luv It!

I was thinking about a propane torch on the regulator...:hillbilly:

Not going to be able to make this trip :-(
if anyone wants my spot its yours. if not, I think there is a wait list on the MR web site.
