Kentucky or Tennessee could be a possibility for me.

We're still slow at work, and collecting minimum pay. May just need a career change.

I got nothing to offer, truck is still busted and I gots no $ to fix it. But I will be ready come spring, at least that is the plan. I can do one big trip, so any of the options are kinda making me moist in the trousers.

Gotta go to Moab at some point. Probably before all you not listening mofos spit future delinquents.

Y'all best be listening to that wise Moab advice.

Since none of us (who are likely to go) have been to Moab....I wonder what are the options for staying cool during the day. Co river? any lakes? Where to camp? What are the camping options?

Off to research.

Steelbender has a creek that's perfect for hanging out.

Rafting on the CO river is nice.

ARB fridge with ice cream is always a good idea.

Slickrock Campground has a pool, and is the 'only' one in Moab that will not be upset by wrenching in camp. They also have cabins, unsure on swamp coolers tho.

Thanks Bri.

Steelbender looks like a parking lot off the highway.... Which brings me to a real concern I have, and a major disappointment in the BH's. We like remote camping. BH camp grounds seem to all compete with how much stuff they can boast, gas stations, restaurants, carnival rides, grocery stores, and lots of people packed into ....well, a grass parking lot. I know we are in the minority in this but, its not for us. If I had my way, I would just find a spot near a river and camp there all week.... maybe move camp a couple times, depending on trail locations. :( Maybe its just the nature of touristy areas.

Theres a good thread in the camping section about camping at Moab.

Just skimmed it.... It sounds like you actually "make camp" as long you are on BLM land? If so, that could be a lot of fun.

Area BFE.

10 miles S of Moab...free (well, donations appreciated)...private land...trailer accessible...one of the owners, Olaf, is building a Cruiser...no power, no nothing...and some hardcore trails are practically IN camp...

you can walk back when you break

Sounds perfect

Love the idea of Moab. But no way I could do it this year, I would want to make it a two week trip and there is no way with our work plans this year. If Superlift, Tenn, or E. Kentucky are on the table I may be able to work that out.

Everything's on the table.... That could be a fall run.....

Not in October for me, work has blocked out all of October due to new changes. Still don't have the week in June off yet, schedualing is just now starting this week due to all the changes coming up next year. June is marked as fewer than normal people off, but I have enough senority that I should have no trouble with getting the week off. With all the wekend work planned this next year the sooner I know of a wheeling date the better or I may be missing from most trips.

I vote for a fall run to harlan ky and i could swing moab next year after i build some comp time and the house does not drain all my $$$. I went to moab in 05 in the early summer and the temps werent that bad thats evem with my legendary pussiness when it comes to heat. Badass place, always wanted to go back but life always got in the damn way.

I have heard many good things about Harlan, KY. Group of guys from work used to go every year on quads and loved it. But I have never been there and know little about the area.
Eastern Tenn. has many parks that sounds interesting, Golden Off Road. The park where GSMTR has been held after Tellico was shut down. There is a story about it on Pirates home page. Coal Creek is the new location for GSMTR due to more variaty of trails and more trails.
Brian has said in the past that Super Lift off Road Park is one of his favorites and there is plenty there to play on for a full week.
Just some ideas, you guys decide and I'll try to fit it into my work schedual.

Harlan has a bit of everything and more than enough trail to keep you occupied for more than a few days. Plus you can camp on the mountain if you like.

Harlan looks pretty sweet.

Is this to replace Moab or just do it later in the year after moab?
