I made some progress on the A/C. The Vintage Air evaporator is mocked up and it looks like I can run the lines through the firewall in a different area than the old heater plate. I'm waiting on some fittings from Cold Air so that I can finalize and make holes for the lines.
For the compressor and fittings on it - I ordered a new Denso 100 series Land Cruiser 2UZ compressor from Rock Auto (same part number as the 1UZ VVTi). The 3UZ A/C compressor is more complex than the 100 series. It has 5 wires and I assume is variable speed? Here are pictures of them side by side. The fitting locations on the 3UZ are not in great locations to try to adapt them and I'm happy to go the seemingly easiest path here.
Denso sells a top plate for this compressor that has the American style #8 and #10 on it. I ordered it from Cold Hose -

The wiring bracket on the compressor has to be bent out of the way for the bracket, but that was easy to do with a wrench. The compressor is installed on the engine and it looks like it is going to work well.
