there are more definitions than just a journey on foot.

i would say this pissing match over a definition of a word ... "fawkin geeks" comes to mind.

if someone wants to call a days drive back a challenging trail a "Trek" then so be it. if someone else wants to claim that a "Trek" is a walk around the block then so be it. "Trek" is more about the difficulty of the trail than what is used.

for a gent with a broken leg a "Trek" might be just getting from the couch to the toilet.

crushers- my thoughts EXACTLY, so we're on the same page here. I think you may have overlooked my sarcasm in insisting upon such a strict definition of the word "Trek"- it's just as ridiculous as holding to a singular definition of the word "expedition". While most references do associate the word "trek" with walking, there are different definitions for different people in different contexts, and all of them potentially valid to different people. If you read through this thread from the beginning, you'll see Mark's posts insisting upon his definition only and combating/insulting all others by implying anything else is just "posing", "pretending", or someone with something to "prove". I was only fighting fire with fire to get him to see how ridiculous it is to stubbornly insist upon such a singular definition of a word, while attempting to insult people who are simply trying to learn about the topic in the process.

And I do believe the lion has been tamed. Now back to relevant discussion, I hope...

if Mark wants to call his runs Treks, fine by most of us.
some day i will attend his "trek" and i am sure i will enjoy it, be it a Trek, Overlanding, Expedition or a Putz ... it will be an Adventure for me. i don't care what it is called, as long as he still leads the Outing.

sometimes, it seems, the little things can really ruin a thread.

I am dying laughing here. You really don't get it.

My apology was to everyone else reading this thread, not to you. As I said I should not have let myself be baited into arguing with you.

I am not going to waste my time and everyone else's patience with any more back and forth with you.

If you feel like you have won something, go right ahead and congratulate yourself. I thought about taking a bit of enjoyment in expressing my opinion of you here, but this really has to stop. If you want to try to harass me some more, take it to PM so no one else has to be bothered with it... and it will be easier for me to ignore too.

Actually Wayne, I don't call "my runs" anything at all. Well, I guess I tell folks that I am heading out for a few days... So I guess I should be careful how I use the word "out". ;)

The Alaska Cruiser Trek was the name that the club (Alaska Cruiser Crew) came up with back in 2000 when we decided to take a shot at hosting an event. It was a catchy name, everyone liked it and it caught on. I saw no reason to change it as things shifted and I wound up running the event as my operation with the club taking a bit of a back seat.

Not sure how much longer that the Trek will continue. But as we always have, we will continue to welcome friends to come up and join us if they want to get out in the backcountry for a bit.

Or not...

I thought you were "done" with the childishness? Couldn't resist some more childishness, I see...

Nor do you, it seems.

Your apology means so much to me, so thanks for clarifying that for the entire forum. I'm sure everyone is as fascinated as I am by your choice to post again just to selectively omit me from your prior apology. Very mature. Seriously, are you this sensitive about everything?

I hate to break it to you, Einstein, but you just did. Now PLEASE take your own advice and stop wasting our time with your childish rambling. Hint: nobody cares.

For the 2nd time: Now back to relevant discussion, I hope...

Yes! And the same applies to other users' use of the word "expedition". Again, glad we see eye to eye on this. Now try explaining this concept to your friend Mark (offline, please).

Only if you let them.

me, i don't get all caught up in political correctness it is just too damn confusing.

I wouldn't call Mark a friend since i never met him (as for most on this forum) but i respect him as i do most here.
i do believe that it would be an honor to be able to call him a friend.

and yes, i think we see eye to eye but it really is just a trivial point in the grand scheme of things.
