grab, hate to go off topic but uhm why exactly do you have a LX470 errr Cygnus front bumper? It looks good just wondering why you swapped it.

Because I liked it more, especially the projectors in the fogs

But not anymore :D

hks3sgte: are you a friend of John L over at Expedition Exchange? If so, he'd be ashamed to have his 90 pictured on this site! ha ha. Just kidding, John's a great guy. Its been a while, but I need to buy some more stuff from him one of these days...

Not a friend of his, but his truck is the only one with XZLs... so, sorry John! Besides, I've spent plenty of dollars at his shop for my Discovery... he shouldn't mind!

The XZLs will last longer than you will....the Baja's will ride better on the road, but wont last long. I'd vote the XZLs just because you'll be able to get a replacement easier than for a Baja, it will just cost more.

Back :)

I measured those Siam today

33" inch tall no were close as XZL 255/100 (36.1" inch). I know BFG A/T's are 34.6" tall and would work with some minor rubbing under full compression.

[3.61-34.6]= 1.5inch = 3.75cm

The question is how I can make the XZL fit?

Mounting them on 8" inch wheel wide (255 work beautifully on 8 wide, I don't know the recommended size from Michelin)

1-2inch body lift?

Or just pick the BAJA and call it a day

BTW, they look mind-blowing on that 80 :D

36" tires require a lot of lift. I don't know how you're gonna do it. Is the 8.25R16 XZL available to you? That is more like a 34" tire.

Michelin recommends a 6.5" wide wheel for the 9.00 R16's. I would guess they can fit with the right wheel offset and at most 1/2-1" of body lift (if any at all). Compared to a 315, they are about 1.5" taller, so then they'll require .75" more clearance within the wheel well. But they are also over 2" narrower in width and all the 315's rub on the outer edges of the tread.

Also be aware, max speed rating on these tires is 62 mph.

Nice to know. I have the option off 6.5, 7.0 or 8.0 wide steelies

That max speed at max load ;) (~3750lb@80 psi)

Who would go over 80mph on lifted 100 anyway... SCARY!! :D

Looks like a solid axle under that white one you posted with the XZLs.

You could get some slightly taller rear springs and crank your stock torsion bars a little to help keeping stuff from rubbing as often, extend your bumpstops (lose up-travel), and do a 1" BL. I wouldn't go over 2" on the BL, and I'd actually like to see someone with a >1" BL on a 100.

Hello guys

Today I found interesting tires from BFG dealer

The BFGoodrich Rally Raid tiers

http://www.bfgoodrich.com/racing/AfficheServlet?Rubrique=20060413093752&Langue=EN

They go for exactly half the price, 490$ per tire, to 245$. They are new, left over from the last UAE desert challenge and they want to get rid of them.

The other good thing is if I wanted "any" tires with not available sizes, I must order it and wait at least 3 months. By that time it will be the end of the season. (no offroading at 60C degree :D)

I need some opinions ;)

You know, the more research I do the more I would lean toward the BFG baja - that tire has been indestructible, over 10 years of baja racing, and 10 champion ships straight with out a SINGLE puncture, I am not saying that the tire is tougher than the XZL but it is specifically designed for sand/packed sand and has a tremendous track record in motor sports... Plus it should be more readily available and cost considerably less

I would tend to disagree. The Baja has had blow outs during racing and the Michelin is used almost exclusivly in Africa for overlanding. It is very effective when aired down as well. That said, this is only what I have seen by way of video and read online. So I am not and expert.

I was looking for these tires, but couldn't get them in Europe. The Rock version is mostly used on Dakar (also on a LC100 - yes, in this size). This is the most durable tire ever made, but don't expect to get many miles out of them when used on paved roads.
As this tires are quite narrow (and only 32" tall), I don't expect them to do well with a loaded car.
I use 265/75R16 MT/Rs on a 6.5" rim. This year my car was heavy and the sand was soft. So sometimes I had to drive with only 0.5bar in the tires. The tire survived this and I was able to reinflate it with a cheap Chinese compressor:

I don't say that MT/Rs are the best tires for the sand, but they sure do take a lot of punishment.

The thing is SamoL, after to much researching and exploring the net forums I'm leaning toward tall and skinny preferable 255/85 (33" tall). I really don't like a heavy steering, It just not fun add tire deflation.

The 255/85 is just not available in any dealer, only by ordering them. In the other hand the size 235/85 is available more often.

If I decided to go with XZL, I will need

1- 1-2" body lift
2- 5.29" re-gearing
3- beadlock wheels (with that much meat)

I'm really close to pull the trigger on 235/85 for this moment, either toyo M55 or rally raid G1 and ordering BFG 255/85 MTR for next season.

The truck is barley covering any miles (max 10k/year) with no loads
