Just curious if there is a transfer case disc brake conversion for the older style transfer cases out there? I've seen them on the newer style when searching, but nothing old.

Anybody running one, or have something to recommend?

the reports I am aware of are not glowing for the mechanical disk. if you're not going to go to an integrated ebrake axle, just keep the drum. there seems to be more surface area of contact on the shoes and drum than the pads on the disk. Personnaly, I don't like having to unstake and untorque the tcase output shaft to get at the brake workings. I'm certain that the drum could be turned into a disk if there was the right amount of determination, but not certain what the point would be unless the disk gave more stoppage...

Even at 100%, still only locking one tire....

so keep the drum if ya got one, if yer pocket heavy, get a splitcase drum, if not run what ya brung;) I'll run a factory solution any day of the week over an aftermarket(exception of my right rear axle shaft and gaskets:mad:)

sorry. meant to say:
if you have one piece case, keep the drum. If you go to split-case, get an axle with ebrake unless you're either lucky or are willing to spend a 1000 bux for a split-case brake. I would rather compromise between a t-caswe brake/axle brake of all DOT approved components, than experiment with a "kit" solution that hasn't gotten rave review for a period of time and miles...I hope that makes more sense than my previous(perhaps typical) chicken scrathing...

When I changed out the rear discs on my Civic, I kept one thinking it would be about the right size for this...

Just need a cable actuated caliper.

Both wheels locked if you have rear locker, eh?

all 4 if you're locked up front and engaged into 4;). axle brakes are only going to grab both rears...true.

Just kinda wanting to figure out something somewhat simpler than the drum setup. Plus have the always available parts. I might tackle this next summer next time and come up with something. I like the idea of a disc personally, even if only one wheel is grabbing. Its better than the one wheel kinda grabbing that i have now.

Need to get under there and do some adjusting on the drum...
