Hello there,

I was wondering if someone out there would mind taking some measurements for me?

On the FJ45 SWB - where the license plate was IN/ON the left side recess of the tailgate, I need some exact measurements. I have the license plate bracket however, if someone had a picture too that would be awesome.

Its location from side to side, top to bottom. Where it's welded and how. I would like to make mine look OEM.

Reason for relocation? With it bolted to the rear quarter (left side) it hangs out over an inch and get bent all the time. It either grabs a tree/something or my jeans as I scoot around it in the garage.

Thus - I would like to move it into the tail-gate like the Toyota did later, and then put the emblems on in it's place.

Thanks so much,

Dallas

Mine isn't in the middle of the left hand indent- it's at the bottom. (7.5" from left edge to center of left license plate bolt) I don't know if this is factory or not. The fiberglass tailgate I got from Specter has a 'boss' for the mounting you're talking about.

That fiberglass mount is for the later style license plate bracket. Try posting this in the 40 tech section. The location your looking for is the same on both the two piece and one piece gates on the 40s. That license plate bracket with the single light was used thru the 73 model year.

NICE - thanks. In that FJ45SWB (red one) - how is the wire run for the license plate light?

Any ideas how to get power to the lic. plate light??

Thanks - Dallas

Splice a wire off of the solid green wire in your rear wiring harness(i think that is the running light wire??)on the drivers side, then run it up to the license plate light.Mine came with the wire going through the rear sill.If you have the stock harness, the splice might already be there???

I am going to have to buy/find that bracket. It's much different than the one I have.

Also, the indentation on mine is smooth. I don't have that raised area in the middle.

Last, I am afraid of water getting in that hole where the wire goes in and rusting my rear channel.

More to come. . . and THANK YOU for the help fellas.

Probably got a few of these brackets stored at my cabin really not hard to find. The hole going thru the channel shouldn't be a problem if you paint it. The rear channels rust because they fill with mud on the backside stay wet then rust from the inside to the outside. Keep it clean and you should be fine:cheers:

Just put a dab of clear silicone where the wire passes thru the grommet and you will be fine.:)

I also have lots of those brackets if you need one.

65,

Could you post a pic of the bracket, if it's not too much trouble - I may need one for my truck. I know there are pics above but could you just set it on a table with no plate on it and snap a shot. I need to figure out how to put a plate on my LPB.

Can't block the TOYOTA or the tail lights or the tail gate and I need a light. Can't hang it below due to damage off road. I'm thinking of a mount using the 2" receiver but then would need something else when towing (not often).

Thanks,
Kevin

Im not sure the bracket would work on your set up.Its ment to go on the rear door/tail gate,of the 40 and 45 swb.The lwb plate mounted to the fame just under the tail light. Looks like your receiver idea is the best.
