I know someone got a video of me "walking the crawler"....

It was an awesome day in all respects. Enjoyed the hell out of the Ziltch bag around the campfire. Good Karma all day. Clint and I left around 9:30 to head back to Indy. As it turned out, we should have stayed and camped, even though we didn't have any gear. I was pumped to have a day wheeling and escape the Badlands without some carnage...and that was even with Clint driving some. :) Well that was not to be the case. Read on.

Coming out of the campground, we saw a herd of about 4 yearling deer. That should have been a warning sign. But noooooo... We got five or so miles out of Attica and all of a sudden, Clint said "deer" and then we hit it. It ran out in front of us that quick. It was a medium sized doe, probably not more than 2 years. The deer ran into the front pass. corner and bounced off. I don't think we actually ran over it with the tire. The truck didn't veer one way or the other at all. Stayed straight. We stopped and took a look and were quite surprized at the lack of damage but it was pretty dark. If you look closely in the pic, you can see some fir. Scared the crap out of me, that's for sure. If the truck wasn't lifted, you can bet there would be more extensive damage. The bumper was already trash. It got the valence pretty good and the very front of the fender. The inner fender will also take some work. Suspension seems fine except for maybe a tire out of balance but it drives straight. All in all, I am very thankful.

That wasn't to be the end of our adventure though. When we got out on 52 (a four laner), we were humming along at about 65 mph and all of a sudden this person apears out of nowhere like a ghost...walking on the white line on the right side of the road. They had to have been asking to be hit. Really freaky.

Anyway, all is well. Wish more could have come. There will always be next time. Looking forward to the Mini UA now for sure.

Nice. File an insurance claim on that bad boy and git yourself and ARB.

x2.

Lots of times animal strikes dont require paying a deductable!

Youve got atleast 1000$ of damage

Talk about trippy! Ron was saying "I'm so stoked, I made it a day at Badlands without any new dents....[BAM]... oh dude!"

I've had many a close call with deer in the past, but that was the first time I've been involved in an accident with one. The surprising thing was how little the impact affected the 80. It was so minor that Ron wouldn't pull over for almost 2 miles of me bitching at him to at least take a look to make sure the front wheel wasn't about to fall off! Later on when he almost hit the crazy person walking along the side of the highway, the natural question was would he have stopped again :grinpimp: I know what Ron did last summer!

I had a great day even though my rig wasn't ready for the trip. I have a few pictures, but they are on a new phone that I am not sure how to operate yet.

Fun times

My fun levels were very high on Saturday, what a great day and a great time riding shot with Darrell. Thanks to all who were there for bringing me along and making me feel welcome. Hope to do it again soon.

Ron and Clint, glad to hear you made it out of that encounter with minimal damage. John logs with his rig, you guys hunt.

Here's a couple pics, couldn't figure out how to post more than 3. I may try to put a couple more up in another post, but I'll give everything I've got to Darrell when I see him and maybe he can share. Indeed I have a full video of "walking the crawler" as well as one of Darrell scaling a cliff I didn't think he'd make. Lots of tire smoke on that one.

Nope, he's still not my dad.

one more attempt at posting pics

If this doesn't work, I give up and Darrell can try.

I think my files are too big and I'm too tech-ignorant/lazy to shrink 'em down.

So, should I still hold the week of 06/15 open for a Mini UA? Iron out any details?
