So we changed the timimg belt on my son's 93 truck w/22re.

at first we could not get it started & thanks to you all's input we finally got it running but not too well. I have to throttle it to keep it running otherwise it dies. I get an occasional sputter from under the throttle body intake and at the Mass air flow box. One of the problems is that I had messed up the mass air flow box. I found a used one a a local junk yard but it is a different number than the original.

the original # is 22250-35050 and the one if found is # 22250-73010. the latter part seems to be off a newer truck. the guy at the parts place assured me that as long as the connectors fit, it would work. Could it be the box with the problem or something else?

Thanks again for all the help.

Hey Luis, I don't know a ton about the 22re, but have you checked the TPS(throttle position sensor)...assuming of course these engines have one. On the 3fe, there is a tps as well as an idle screw. The screw is on the throttle body. If you turn it up/down(open/close) it will idle it up or down. Again, only speaking from 3fe experience, but I imagine there are some similarities

Checking the TPS is a really good idea at this point, now that you have it running.

The second number you posted is for an 83-88 Van model, with the 3Y & 4Y engine. No idea how compatible it is, but it's likely the guts are the same, just a different configuration.

i dont know about the tps...if it was running fine before he took it apart, there would be no reason for it to be out. if he removed the upper plenum, he most likely would have just un jacked the connector...which would not interfere with the calibration of the tps....

if you attempt to adjust tps, i would first mark its position so you can easily put it back...

my bet is that if it was running fine before that its not the problem.
