Make sure you test your warn platinum winch before heading out.

@kcjaz so i noticed the same thing that the handset remote battery goes dead when turned off and stored. One would think it would just keep a charge, but it doesn't.

Do you think it is better to let it go dead and just charge it when heading out, or to leave it plugged in so it remains charged?

Thanks for the tip on the panel removal, I didn't think of that. I was thinking or relocating the wires for that switch, but this has been a rare issue.
I just let it go dead for months at a time. Not sure if doing that or keeping it plugged into a usb is better. Probably keeping it connected to a USB that is only on with the ignition would be the best way?

Also, so you just keep your control box (on the winch) on all the time? No battery draining issue? I do wish that button was in the cab. I have thought about relocating that switch to the dash but not sure it’s worth the work.

I haven't had any battery draining issues, but the vehicle is used almost daily and I have dual batteries. I was talking with a warn rep. yesterday and he described a way to hook the power for the control box to a wire that was only live when the ignition switch was on. Then cycling the ignition switch would be the same as switching the wireless on and off and would not drain you battery.

I ended up buying a 10' USB cable incase the handheld is not charged. Some times passengers unplug it as their phone is much more important.

Can you share this info? I interested to wire the control box to enable with ignition switch on.

Here's a writeup to use key control on a control box. Includes inside winch control as well.

@molanginaeda from what the rep. said you just take wire the switch on the back that says wireless on/off and disconnect the wire it and hook a fused wire going to the fuse block that gets power when the ignition switch is turned.

It's just one wire to the control unit wire for the wireless from the fuse block.

This wireless feature would be the only drain on the battery.

I'm not sure if it's easy to pop that switch out without taking anything apart or if you need to open the control box to pop it out from the inside.

Interesting. I thought about modifying the relo kit harness to run the wireless off an ignition source but I wasn’t sure that would be all there was to it. The way it comes will allow winch operating with ignition off. I could see a situation where engine dead and needing to run winch but not really ignition off. With ignition off it would be in park and the steering wheel locked.

To get the switch out you need to remove the control box and to do that you need to have the winch not installed. It’s easy to remove though.

Here’s a photo of inside the control box. Switch is on top of photo (green button).

You don't need the engine running when you hook it up the way described, but you would have the accessories switch on. It would be best if the engine is running.

From the photo it looks like that red wire that appears to be getting power from the left leg and looks like it has an inline fuse. You would just have it go to the fuse block instead of that left leg.

Interesting to see that. Very different than the VR guts.
