After seeing a few attic racks in the white 80 of CSC members, I decided to have jjgarci1 build an attic rack for my cruiser. It works great. The rack system consists of 2 mounting brackets, chrome gridwall and mounting hardware.

Installation is super easy:
  1. Remove 3rd row seat grab handles if you have them.
  2. Install mounting brackets.
  3. Slide the chrome gridwall onto the mounting brackets, starting from the front of the vehicle (2nd row seat) at about 45 degrees.
  4. Install mounting hardware and thighten nuts.
Thanks jjgarci1 for creating such a nice rack.

mounting rack

What a cool idea! And just mounts using the existing rear seat grab handle points? Could you use carriage bolts to mount the rack to the bracket, so the round head of the bolt is on the bottom? Or would that be difficult to tighten from the top once the rack's in place?

Why not use a square drill bit :hillbilly: Try that on LCP's I am sure he will appreciate it!

My dad has these. I don't do much carpentry...for metal I'd need a machine called an ironworker.

Or

I'm not recommending these machines, just came up on google search.
I know this guy in Tempe that has an ironworker in his garage:

http://www.sonoransteel.com/

Someday, I'd like one. But, right now it's just a pipe dream. :wrench::wrench::wrench:
Or, just drill an undersized round hole and file it out with a square file. BTDT

Depending on the material, can over size the hole, and put a nut on the carriage bolt and ratchet it down. Sometimes they will pull into hole.

My shop has an ironworker 4000. All the dies are broken since everyone has tried to use it , wrongly.

I've already claimed it if our shop folds.

(Sshhh!! Phil even has rubber booties for the top sides of the bolts)

Hey LandCruiserPhil, did you want the optional carriage bolt? You will need a small set of square files although a round file will work. The corner will just have a radius. I have a feeling the radius will drive you crazy and it just won't be right. If you are unable to make it perfectly square, I know a guy in Mesa that will spend quality time making round holes square. I readily admit, he is more dedicated to the craft (and probably your project) than I am!
Absolutely, i would make a square notch for you, if/when i ever in my wildest dreams get an Ironworker. When did you want this rack again? :)

Thanks Phil, go back to eBay or the tech section or wherever now.

Who doesn't think it would be a lot of fun to be able to punch a 1" hole through 1" plate in a single heartbeat, in their garage.
At least appreciate my LandCruiser approach to solving problems. A file when an Ironworker will do the job!!? I didn't even consider that! I like people teaching me how to use my stuff! Thanks Inkpot. It might even be very easy with a sharp file and thin metal. I'm still not doing it...

Good ideas all! Whatever Decision he makes, I hope Phil is happy with my portion of the project to declutter a clutterfree phil zone!

I should have already made his. Then he would have to cut off the welded on bolts to be as cool as the next guy (who will also need a small set of files) :)

All I need is the BLING:flipoff2: I have tie wraps and hose clamps what else does one need.:confused:Tested on some of the tuffest trails in western states:hillbilly: ...I see no need for square holes, carriage bolts, ironworkers, files, yada yata yaaa.............Too much drama:zilla::flush:

I need to load my mini van
