The thread on the iclick forum (which I posted the link to and you will probably have to set up a user name and password to see I guess).

I don't know the area, so I have no clue what they are talking about, or you for that matter, I don't know how many lodges are there or what they are all called. Their thread mentioned the Mackenzie Lodge where they stayed burnt down, I assumed from the name they mention and the photos they posted, you may figure out what burnt down, I have no clue.
Cheers,

Mackenzie lodge burned

The Iclick bunch that followed us through, came in from Nazko and stayed at the Mackenzie lodge before it burnt down. Here is an except from their thread.

To get the full impact of what happened, this is what I sent to the MacAttack crew last night

SO I SAT WITH MY FIRE OFFICIAL FRIEND TONIGHT AND WENT OVER THE ACTUAL MAPS AND DETAILS OF WHAT IS BURNING OR BURNT OUT IN THE BUSH. IT IS TRUE THAT THE FIRE WHICH WE COULD SEE FROM THE MCKENZIE LODGE SWEPT AROUND THE TOP OF THE LAKE (ACROSS FROM US) IMMEDIATELY AFTER WE LEFT. IT IS SAID THAT IT JUST BLEW UP!
WITHIN 24 HOURS OF FLARE UP, IT HAD CONSUMED THE FOREST DOWN AROUND TO THE WEST OF THE MCKENZIE LODGE (AND THE LODGE), THEN RIGHT UP TO CHADWELLS (EAST) AND ALL THE WAY DOWN THE TRAIL FOLLOWING US THROUGH WILLIE CASSAMS PLACE TO WITHIN A KM OF PHILLIPS FISHING LODGE.

SHE WATCHED US LEAVE ON SPOT AS THE FIRE WAS COMING AT US. I HAD NO IDEA. IT WAS RIGHT ON OUR HEELS. THEY HAD NO WAY TO LET US KNOW. BY THE TIME WE HAD GOTTEN TO LAMBERTS IT HAD CONSUMED WILLIES AND WAS AT PHILLIPS DOORSTEP

We were very lucky to see the lodge just before it was destroyed and to visit the Phillips before the fire swept through the area.

This is shocking news and I hope everybody got out of there before the inferno. Please let us know if there is any more news re the Phillips place. What a shame to hear that this historical area is being destroyed.:frown:

I just sent off an email to Rob and Linda to see how they are doing and to let them know that our thoughts are with them.

I can't believe the PG group had to cut over 200 trees to get throw the trail after we went throw a week or two ahead of them. Also sounds like they had a harder time getting throw the trail then we did.

I think they ended up taking a slightly different path at the begining. From the pictures and write up it appears they took the trail from the Blackwater river where we met Ronald on the original trail. We bypassed that and headed on the new gravel road over to our first camp. That part of the trail would not have been cleared. If you read the writeup after that section they did not mention cutting down any trees for the the rest of the trip.

I guess we are some of the few lucky ones that were not only able to see these places before they were burned but also do the trail as it was. Now half of it has become a charcoal field. So are we scheduling another visit out there next year to clear the trail once again?

we should find out more

I guess we should find out what parts are burnt and what parts aren't. The burnt bits will take several years to recover and until then they are really not worth the effort in terms of scenic beauty.

Drew may find out more from the Phillips when he contacts them. I think the I Click group (and maybe Dave Blair) might be going in there in September - so we may find out more in the coming weeks. If the bit between Gatcho and Eliguk Lakes was not touched by fire that would still be an interesting bit of trail (west to east).

These fires are getting seriously annoying.

Nope, that post about going in September long was from my buddy Kim and that was before the Iclick group went in there. Kim's been talking to Mike Allen, and he recomends not going in there. We are going elsewhere, but if you want a wheeling contact for that area, Mike Allen spends a lot of time in that area (his back yard). I am sure he will be in there early next year as soon as the snow melts.
Cheers,

Wow guys what a trip. A real shame about the structure losses, I too hope everyone else got out and am glad to hear the fire didn't catch you all up after you left that area.

I too have been chased by a forest fire (in the Yukon) and its a truly awsome and belittling phenomenon.

I'm in the middle of a build on my 60 but the once it is done Ill do whatever it takes to join you guys in your next trip like this. Looks like good times.

That Horizon trailer sure is sweet.... how'd it do on the trip?

Glen... Did you get your oilly locker thing sorted out? How did those new compressors work for you?

Happy trails

That Horizon trailer sure is sweet.... how'd it do on the trip?

We had two trailors on the trip a custom built one, somthing like the Horizon and a Chaser. Both trailors did fine but there was a failure of the trailor hitch assembly and mount on the tow rig of the larger trailor that forced them to retire early. I had a lot of fun getting my smaller Chaser throw the last few days of the trail, vary tight and lots of mud. I also managed to tweek my lock N' roll hitch(Mackenzie trail 2, Lock N' Roll 0).

Unfortunately, with the pine beetle kill, these fires will be all too common in the years to come. :frown:

Update from the Phillips

As of right now only Willies and the Blackwaterlodge and all the buildings there on the west end of Tsacha was burn . The fire is about a mile from Mackenzie lodge but the wind has quite and it has been raining so right now it is looking good. The fire is still burning across Tizzey Lake but with more rain on the way, things at this point are looking good.

I was starting to get concerned when Rob took so long to reply.

Thanks Drew - so the Mackenzie Lodge did not burn down. So the IClick information may not be dependable.

Blackwaterlodge is the other part of the Mackenzie lodge property on the north west side of the lake
Blackwater Lodge.webp

I wouldn't say not dependable, as they might have been missinformed themselves. Anyone that has wheeled more that 10 years should know who Mike Allen is as he was heavily involved with 4WDBCA back in the day, he is the guru of wheeling in the PG area and is probably one of the nicest non-cruiser guys out there. He's probably wheeled in that area for more than 20 years and could probably show the CC around if they so wish. I know when Greg Bowie and I were at Quesnell Canyon a few years back he made that invitation to the Coastal Cruisers and I am sure he would be happy to talk and help out if you guys are looking for trails in that area.

I am not too keen on the rest of the Jeep Iclick guys, but I do consider Mike and his son Levi quite dependable.
Cheers,
Deny

Blackwater Lodge is part of the Mackenzie trail Lodge property so I can see how it would be vary easy to have some confusion depending on who filed the reports. Only time will tell once people can get back in there and take a first hand look at what was really destroyed.
