M8000 Warn Winch troubleshooting

I acquired this winch in non working condition. It didn't come with a controller so I purchased one online through a Warn parts place. The problem is it doesn't work. I've been online, tried some informative YouTube videos but it still doesn't work. Any thought?

That controller connector looks like it has 5 pins? I think the M8000 should
only use 4 pins. Go to Warn.com and get a wiring diagram for the controller. Is the
controller a 5 pin controller? Different generations have different controllers. Quick look,
that's where I would start.

They both have 5 pins.

Does the winch do anything? Clicking sound?

I got it working...seems there is a small black wire that needs to be grounded. It seems to be working just fine now.

Oh yeah, check the grounds. As soon as I read that, D'OH!! I had the same issue with my
rear winch when I set it up. Forgot. Glad you got it going.
