How many miles how are they wearing
The Dempster highway is 750 Km's of chipped slate in each direction. I wore out the tires on my trailer but after including 1500 Km's of the Dempster I have put about 10,000 miles on these and they aren't showing any significant wear or noticeable ride/traction changes. My favourite tire so far. I pull a 27' trailer and a 20' jet boat and camp with a 16' "off-road" trailer in fairly remote locations.

I have the tire in my signature: Wildpeak A/T3W in 305/55/20s. These are on the aggressive end in both size, and tread style. More like K02's in aggressiveness. I picked the Falken's as they were very well reviewed by some tire insiders, and quieter than the K02's. With less aggressive (albiet still aggressive) side lugs that fit more with the LX. It also got excellent marks for snow performance.

These are 33.2" tires so require some massaging of the liner to fit without rub. The width also requires a spacer, of which I use 1" all around. Cornering and braking performance are a priority for me. So tire width is an attempt to keep that balance intact, given the tire lift and A/T tread. While also protecting the wheel as it's relatively more inset of the tire sidewalls.

Towing performance and stability is just dandy too.

TeCKis300, what specific parts did you buy to stuff the 305/55/20s without rubbing? It looks like you're in the "high" AHC mode in your pictures or did you get a lift/leveling kit? Are you referring to a 1" strut spacer raising the body or a wheel spacer pushing the wheels/tires further out from the wheel well?

My wife has a 2013 LX570 with original OEM tires that we were able to about 45k miles out of and will be replacing them with BFG T/A KO2s soon.

Are 285/60/20 out of the question? They're 33.5" diameter and 11.5" wide...about 0.3" taller in diameter and 0.9" less width than the 305/55/20.

The important numbers are tread width 305/5520 has 10.2 inches tread width 285/5520 “D” rated has 10.1 inch tread width I have the 285/5520 and tread is the important part of the formula they ride great they are great tires. No rub run them at 43 psi on sport mode. These are the tires Lexus should’ve put on this truck as OEM. The 285/60/20 BFG AT/KO2’s are “E” rated have the same 10.1 treadwidth as the 285/55/20’s. Doubt you can see the difference on your truck. You will feel the difference between “D” rated versus “E” rated.

Want something that is a sturdy truck tire, but does not ruin my ride and handling. Live in N. FLA, but want to be able to drive across Kansas and through Colorado in a snow storm in the middle of winter. No rock crawling ;), but I could be on a fire road. 33" tire's 275/60/20 sound cool but will they provide better performance over 32" 275/55/20's. I've thought about BFG AT KO'2's, but they add an additional 14lbs of unsprung weight to each tire compared to the OEM 285/50/20's, plus noise, etc. looked at Michelin LTX AT2's and Michelin Defender MS2's, both look like great tire's but in what size would they be best?? I know 33" versus 32" would look better (LX would look more balanced with bigger rubber). But if I go with the 33" tire's can I still use my 31.2" OEM spare for a few miles to get a tire repaired without screwing up my LX? Bottom line tire's that look as badass as possible without ruining my ride experience. Your personal experiences would be very helpful.
I’m due for tires too and can’t decide what the hell I want. I have the KO2 on now but I think they are to much tire for my needs but love the look of them. I just started looking at the Yokohama and Michelin, but yeah I just can’t make up my mind.

2010 LX. Just upgraded to 275/60r20 Michelin LTX AT2s. Couldn't be happier. No clearance concerns, just slightly thinner than stock (10.8 vs 11.2), 33" tall. Do all 5 though, running an odd spare is a quick way to put extra stress on the driveline. In for a penny and all that.

1” wheel spacer. The LX can be leveled by adjusting the front height sensors with a wrench in your driveway!

@tbisaacs got it. That's the only trick to this formula. .75" spacers are readily available now, that would be even more ideal in terms of fit and scrub radius.

I personally did not lift at all. I value handling almost more than added ride height. The 33's already do enough for me in terms of added (tire) lift. Besides, AHC can lift on demand and in my technical trail experience, AHC does just fine to make enough clearance on demand. As a note, suspension lift has nothing to do with creating clearance on an independent front suspension vehicle. Tire still has to clear at all points of the suspension stroke.

Only other mods are minor adjustments to create clearance in the wheel well. Documented here - Trimming Wheel Well for Larger Tires

As for making a case for wide tires.

As mentioned, I enjoy on tarmac handling and traction. I want my vehicle to perform everywhere. AT tires are a trade to highway tread tires as there's more voids and less rubber meeting the road. More tread squirm and rubber compounds that decrease traction. 305s somewhat mitigate this by adding back more rubber for cornering and braking.

For those that do off-road. The other part of my reason for wider tires is more sidewall for airing down. With more sidewall buldge to protect the wheel face when utilizing the sidewall against terrain. Sidewall in action for pinch situations tackling Piepkorn slot which is not recommended for full size vehicles. I did just scrape my passenger sidesteps here, so the added tire width, plus the added track with via spacers did its part to help protect the body.

Just bought a 2014 LX 21K miles. Still has factory tires and they are dry rotted. Want to put new tires on and just for the looks i want to put AT tires... I am thinking of FALKEN 285/55/20 how different would they be as LT tires plus they are 1" taller than stock. Other option is Cooper zeon 285/50/20.
I will hardly ever hit off-road but you never know. Main concern will be snow as i am in Connecticut.. Any other tire ideas will be appreciated...

Thanks.. Looks like 285 55 20 fits just fine. Any issues with speedometer showing higher than actual speed or lower? Also any rubbing while turning?
Thanks,

No driving problems whatsoever and when I see those signs at the side of the road that tell you watch your speed limit, I look at my digital speedometer and it is pretty much the same.

I put 285/60/R20 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's on my 2009 LX570. No other modifications. It does seem to have a tiny bit of rub at maybe 1/2 a turn in either direction(in Normal). It hasn't bothered me enough to actually do anything about it. I'll address it in the spring. I did all 5 tires and spare "fits" but its snug...

From what I read the Wildpeaks are slightly larger than the KO2's in the same size...

Its not a "glamour" shot but Front drivers wheel in N:
(Installer didn't do a great job cleaning the tire or rim after install)

So 275/60/20's will fit a stock LX570 with no rubbing and no AHC adjustments? Need to decide between the 275/60 and the 285/55 here in the coming days.

I can't say on those sizes I put 285/60/R20 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's ... I did no modifications and the front rub just a tiny bit when turning about half way...

I have 275/60/20 wildpeak a/t3w's on the wife LX and there is zero rub under any circumstance with no modification to AHC or any of the plastics.

Thanks! I confirmed the same with a local guy running the same size tire on his 2017 LX. The tires have been ordered and are already at Discount waiting on me. I plan to go get them put on next week.

Thanks Guys...
Installed the Falken WildPeak AT3s today.
They turned out to be way more aggressive than I thought but I think it will take some time to get used to them.
They make noise which is noticeable but not terrible.
It’s 285-55-20.
