This morning on my way to work I spilled water all over the center console mostly in the cup holders. Pulled over and tried to wipe it off with my extra clothes I had with me. Went to start the car later and it was completely dead. This is new to me since October. First issue since I have purchased it.

Is it just coincidence or did I short something out?

Prolly not coincidence. Although many connectors are sealed, water may have found its way into an important one. Get the truck dry inside with warm air and then charge the battery. It might be toast anyway, depending on age. Make sure the connections to battery terminals are clean and tight. If nothing in the vehicle works, the battery may be too dead to revive. How much time passed from the water event to dead battery. A quick discharge of a good battery might have lead to things getting hot. Fuses OK?

Yea I got inside a warm garage on a battery tender. Was able to jump it to pull it in. It’s on a trickle till morning. Per Lexus service the battery was replaced 8/25. It has a 6/25 date. I’ll double check fuses.

I have also noticed the radio screen is not turning off. It’s staying on.

Well now whenever I hit the brake it sounds like a horn on the rear is going off. So I def fried something and can not seem to find it. Pulled the horn fuse but not change when hitting the brake. Key fob also does not work.

Hmmm. How much water? Water shorting out connectors can for sure cause those issues. It’s all too often the connectors in the door sills where water collects from leaks. Just to make sure those are dry and clean, I would pull the door sill trim and take apart those connectors to make sure they are ok.

And here’s a thread on a similar electrical problem after leaving the sunroof open in the rain.

Yes will do. I would say half a cup of coffee. The majority of it I cleaned within 5 minutes. I was able to find the horn going off above the spare tire Maybe that is for the alarm system. Disconnected that and drove it home. Unplugged the battery and will be taking apart the center console to check all the connections.

Alright so I got the center console apart. Connectors seem dry but at the bottom where my finger is pointing and it’s a little blurry was standing coffee. Shoved a paper towel down there and cleaned it up. Should I just unplug everything spray electrical contact cleaner and replay everything back in??

Alright update, after taking everything apart and cleaning all the terminals the radio turns off and keyless entry is working.

I figured the rear horn. I was pranked because the rear trailer plug was plugged in and wired to a horn. Really funny lol. Terrible timing since I was dealing with a dead battery at the same time. Pictures below.

Lastly, only thing not working at this time is the headlight washers. I’ll have to check that fuse.

Sounds like things are drying out ok. But what the heck is that horn thing. Was that some sort of alarm setup. Too elaborate for a prank, unless you have some odd friends.

Trailer wiring horn is pure gold. I'm definitely going to do this to one of my friends

Glad you got it sorted.

Classic prank with the horn to trailer wiring. I've pulled that move a couple times on some close friends haha

Funny :poop:

In the end the car is working in order! Thank god cuz I was worried I really tried something.

Also, I plan to buy some giant zip ties for my buddies driveshaft that will make a racket when he starts driving.

Great. I learn all kinds of things on here. Horns……zip ties…..someday someone will probably start a thread on pranks.
