Anyone else willing to actually give me some insight as to why to refoam/ not refoam them? I am not into music. Just want a working stereo.
doubt
For that goal, reform is the way to go no doubt. Cheap, easy, plug n play

Thoughts on refoaming these? View attachment 2444212

No offense dude but The guys who swear the levinson stuff is high end, gear that is now approaching 20 years old, crack me up.

the amp may be levinson but those speakers are just run of the mil Paper cone speakers produced in a generic factory. The only elements of them that are remotely specific to the amp is the impedance and the power. Pretty sure that’s a door Driver...8 ohm if so here’s a decent replacement no hassle

I'll say the ml system sounds better that the acura els system in my 12 tl and that's a pretty good system.

When I bought my LX it had a blown sub and needed driver door refoamed. I replaced the sub and refoamed the speaker. I used my ML for 2 months that way. It sounded great for a factory system at low to moderate volume. The mids would get muddy quick when you started making it loud.

I Immediately hated how muddy the two ways, primarily The 6.5 driver, on my Landcruiser was. The speaker didn’t want the bass Frequencies. I can’t envision the ml’s three way being that much different on those lower frequencies unless spreading the Spectrum of frequencies across three speakers at that assigned power made the difference

Frequencies are not spread using proper Xovers. The ML tweeter uses a simple cap as a high pass filter; I think the mid just runs at full range. The woofer is for sure full range. I sincerely doubt there is any spectral filtering within the ML amp itself, except *maybe* for the sub, but I doubt it.

Gross no wonder the sub and mid sucks, go mark levinson

I am talking about a ML system ....

Edit: disclosure states I got so sick of the ML system it is all sitting in a closet now, and I openly take cheap shots at it when possible.

Mine is sitting in the garage. I have no ill will towards it, I just used some credit card points with some internet price matching to purchase parts to replace them. I would still have it if not for the points.

2002 LX470 with Mark Levinson Sound.
- DO NOT replace speakers! Impedance will not match, and other tweeters, sub-woofer, etc. would all be messed up.
- Re-foam with a kit from 'Simply Speakers'. Its easy to do, they have videos up on YouTube, and you cannot possibly screw this up. 2000-2009 Lexus LX470 Mark Levinson COMPLETE System Speaker Repair Kit FSK-LX470
- The slightly more challenging part is the door panel removal:

I did it myself. Before and after pics attached.

Quality raw drivers with matching impedance can be found easily and inexpensive

Ah, thanks! I wish I had seen your earlier post before I re-foamed mine. Those Visaton speakers would have fit perfectly - is that what you have in?
Maybe when mine blow out in a few months .. lol.

Nope, ripped all my factory stuff out but have Successfully built multiple car Audio systems with raw drivers And I can tell you that those visatons are simply better speakers than 20 year old paper factory speakers. Impedance match matters.

will this fit the front door?

If I sold a speaker kit for the lx470 that required soldiering would anyone buy it?

$500 for 4 woofers, 4 tweeters, and a sub woofer plus new cross over caps that all run at an 8 ohm impedance and are designed to work in a car door at the stock power levels. Would this sell?

My system has insanely nice bass and treble. I've had a couple of musician friends in the lx470 and they are impressed with the sound quality.

as long as I didnt have to do any altering to openings or enclosures then yes, definitely. My system sounds terrible. I'm looking into the tesla screen as well

I wouldn’t buy but I’m interested in what your kit would entail. Caps and what not to bring 4ohm drivers to 8ohm loads is not expensive parts do for an average of 100$ a speaker I’m subscribed

Well, as predicted, the re-foaming process didnt really give me any good sound.
About to order the entire set of new speakers now, all 8 Ohms:
- 2x Front Door "Visaton R10S 4" Full-Range Speaker 8 Ohm" from www.parts-express.com!
- 2x Rear Door: "Visaton R10S 4" Full-Range Speaker 8 Ohm" from www.parts-express.com!
- 1x Subwoofer: "Visaton BG17-8 6.5" Full-Range Speaker with Whizzer Cone 8 Ohm" from www.parts-express.com!

This should work. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks.
