I’ll probably end up doing a similar cut in the near future, but I might even extend them back a little farther. Going onboard compressor so less need to access the battery. Might cut right at the edge of the airbox and fusebox.

Going to the airbox blocks the power steering reservoir, but most people don't access it often. We did the battery-side cut at the slot built into the factory panel, which seems to be to help cool the battery or something along those lines.

Just to be clear this also trimmed the center panel. Usually it hides the radiator and belts, and only marginally displays the coolant overflow bottle.

My solution to this was simply leaving all the clips out.

Takes 10 seconds in a gas station parking lot to check oil and fluid levels realign the panels and shut the hood.

Granted I did this out of pure laziness. But the panels haven't moved at all with zero clips in for a year now.
That’s actually an excellent low tech idea.

Objectively a great idea. I don’t think my compulsive brain could handle the idea that they MIGHT be rattling under there, even if I can’t hear them.

+1 For not installing the clips. Since the covers bridge from front to back and can really only fit in one way, i can't see how it matters that much. The gasket between the hood and core support should keep them pressed down enough to stop any bouncing around if you were worried about that sort of thing.

I was the Guinea Pig today…

Chose this cutting point based upon being able to still clip the two sides (behind the washer fluid filler & on the other side as well.)

Used painters tape, utility knife, & tin snips.

This makes me regret tossing mine 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m considering cutting them down another 10” or so, making them flush with the center section. Also would make it easier to get to the battery terminals to jump another car if needed.

Will run them for a bit and see what happens

Nicely done and that looks good!

The things I tend to access more underhood is the air filter after trail runs to either replace or blow out silt. Next thing that is not a regular need by a long shot would be better access to the battery, which still looks largely covered.

Thinking along the lines of @mceagle555

I did a little modification to my engine bay covers. Did a little trimming for passenger side one for the Slee mount and Voswitch box. Driver’s side I hogged off a huge chunk for the ARB twin. Oscillating multitool makes quick work of plastic stuff like this. Yeah, I know it’s dusty.
