From the kit photo, it looks like you could just pop the panel off. Throw some loctite or a lock washer on the existing bolts and tighten them back down and avoid purchasing anything all together. Anything I am missing? I just ordered the kit but I'll probably try to accomplish this tonight and if I can get the panels off and back on without breaking them I'll cancel my order.

That's what I did. I popped off the covers, took out the three screws on each side and put them back in with lock washers.
It's difficult to avoid breaking the tabs off the covers. I managed to get the second one off without breaking any tabs, but broke a couple of them reinstalling it. I just used electrical tape on the outside to secure the covers and nobody can tell unless examined closely.
Thanks for this thread. I taped under the mirror. Then used a dental pick in the weep hole, pulling down, slightly away from truck and slightly to the rear of the truck, steady and gentle. Cover came off undamaged. Pulled the screws individually, added a washer and thread sealer. To replace the cover, I placed the two outer snaps in first, then using the tape, I pushed the inner side up into place. It feels more secure, I haven't test driven it yet though.
New to Mud and and found this thread after realizing my mirrors were wobbly/twitching on my 2008 LX and after the Lexus dealer told me they CAN'T be tightened or fixed and it would be $2,300 to replace the two mirrors!
After reading this thread and ordering the kits for each side I called my service rep and told her about it, including that there are TSB's out for this. She was pissed at the service guys and read them the riot act.
Service tech then looks it up and says yeah they can do it for $26 a side parts and no more than one hour labor!
I'm gonna do it myself since I already ordered the kits (for $9 a side) but hopefully I'll save a lot of other folks $2,300 to solve their twitching mirror issue at this dealership in the future (thanks to you guys!)
Great thread. This is my first post here. I just bought a 2009 LX 570 and the driver mirror is wobbling as described in this thread. I was able to get the cover off and add washers to the three bolts but the issue is still there. I previously had an 80 series where the mirror was loose and to fix it, I had to run a long bolt and nut through the post to give it some tension. Could this be the same case? Does anyone have a schematic of what the mirror looks like under all the plastic?
