LX 570 Driver/Passenger Mirror "twitches" by itself when driving

There is a little tiny drain hole on the cover near the body of the vehicle. If you can find something hook shaped you can use that to pull the cover off. I'd put down a bunch of masking tape on the body under the hole so you don't scratch the paint trying to remove it. It's a real pain in the butt.

It isn't easy... I broke tabs but had ordered separate covers so it didn't matter. Use that drain hole to get an opening so you can get a nylon tool in there to release the tabs. Worst case you have to get a couple of covers but if you are careful, they can be saved. They won't break the bank.

Mind me asking where to get those tabs? Is there a part number for the tabs, and I assume the tabs are the same for the LC and the LX? I'm ordering said torque screws, along with floor mats and wiper blade refills from lexuspartsnow.com, and I would like to get it in the same order if possible. Thanks....

I'm thinking of getting this set of pry tools to remove the tabs/cover. Is this a good product to buy?

Amazon.com: AFA Auto Trim Removal Tool [12 Pcs] ~ Strong Nylon Won't Break Like ABS: Automotive

Those look great for smaller, less stubborn stuff, or pulling via small access holes. You might wanna grab some larger pry tools from harbor freight to go with those... They carry numerous, inexpensive pry sets there that work fine.

PS. I might order the set you posted as well bc those metal pullers fill a gap in my own pry tools. :)

Would you mind posting a link to the pry tools you recommend? Amazon link preferred since I have Prime shipping :)

In the pic with the blue arrow I posted, are you talking about the tiny gap between the cover and the body of the car, about half way up the line of the blue arrow? That tiny horizontal gap has a drain hole?

I'm sorry. I just saw that you were looking for just the kind of hole access (to pull) that those tools in your link seem to address. You can disregard my previous suggestion unless you just happen to want additional pry tools for other various trim panels, etc.

No worries... hope this link helps in your tool set. I'm still wondering where did heck I would be able to stick a tool to pry the cover off.

In for any hints as well. I just ordered my screws to resolve the "twitching" on both sides. At rest, it's obvious both of my mirrors have play in the mount, causing the twitching at speed.

Mind me asking where you ordered your screws from? Mine is currently in a cart on Lexuspartsnow.com.

I just ordered it from my local Toyota deal - Poway Toyota - so I can pick it up as it's near me. Any online lexus/toyota should easily be able to get them as well.

I posted earlier in this thread part numbers for a repair kit that includes new bolts with lock washers and replacement plastic panels incase you break them removing them. I'd use those part numbers and call your local Toyota dealer to verify if those parts work with your model. The part kit is cheap and includes everything you need.

EDIT: Everything you need except tools to pry that panel off.

Just got mine done yesterday. This pic below should help explain everything. The bolts/cover work for my '09 LX570 just fine. The key to the fix is the bolts that have an additional lock washer. And the kit comes with new covers as mentioned.

The one tool you'll absolutely want for this is a 1/4" ratchet with hex bit driver. With a no. 25 star bit. A star screwdriver type tool is a no go as you can't reach the bolts perpendicularly as the door/body is in the way. And the bolts take some torque to take out/put in.

I have a pry tool, but it's not absolutely necessary. Easy to pry at the bottom gap where the cover meets the door panel to open a gap. Then just go around. Perhaps 2 credit cards can work just fine.

Old upper vs new lower. Rainy day as you can see.

@TeCKis300 - mind sharing how you got the new cover back on without breaking the tabs? I managed to get the old one off without breaking them, then proceeded to break not only the old cover but also the new one that came with the bolts trying to get them back on! I'll be ordering another one, but I still have no idea how they are supposed to go on. Would be nice if the instructions mentioned how that piece fits back into the housing.

Sorry Twilz. Can't say I remember how it went back as this was awhile ago. But there absolutely is a way without breaking taps. Hopefully someone else recalls?

I just completed the bolt replacement on my 2009 LX and in order to install the new trim cover plate I actually had to unbolt the mirror from the door (after removing the door panel, etc). There isn't enough clearance for the clips to properly align when the mirror is attached to the door. You won't need to take it completely off, but just unbolt enough to tilt the mirror off the door for the panel to clear.

My 2009 LX570 is having this twitching issue. I’ve called two Lexus dealership and they’re offering me a kit that cost $275. Is this right? Maybe I’m asking for the wrong kit?

I’m having trouble trying to get a “kit”. Can you recommend a dealership? Or tell me spicifically what to ask for? They’re telling me the kit is $275. After reading this blog, it seem it shouldn’t cost that much. TIA!
