Hey LT1..........is that an "Escort Twin Cam" in the paint shop in front of the FJ?

Yeah when I visited OZ everyone asked if I was British(WTF?)

Sleepy; I think you can buy some kind of chrome etch primer especially for the job, my paint buddy is doing that part though and I think just roughing the surface up as best you can with some sandpaper would be sufficient

Chrs; Im in Christchurch in the mighty South Island, have lived all over NZ though, are you familiar with Aotearoa?

Jefferson; I doubt it is an original Escort Twin Cam, but no doubt it will be receiving something with two or more cams, it is a project car that was sharing space in the paint shop with my truck.

And on another note...

AXLE REBUILDS SUCK! Just spent this weekend doing a long overdue axle rebuild on the 60 and installed new 4runner calipers and brand spankers rotors. What a horrible, long, messy job, hopefully it'll be a little while before I have to do that again

Gorgeous Truck. I love the color that you painted it.

Matt here is a pic of the engine compartment for radiator and heater line routing. It looks as though the lower hose is running into the air valve, but its a illusion. You can barely see the heater valve hoses, but it is running along the top of the intake to the water pump. The return from the rear heater goes into the radiator down near the drain pug. I had an extra hose bib tigged on for the return.

HOLY CRAP that's a lot of free space. Damn if I wasn't so hell bent on putting in a 4BT, that'd be the engine I'd want. That looks clean as hell. Excellent conversion there.

Isn't the LT-1 an expensive engine? I would think that finding one in good condition would be hard and then it would be expensive on top of that. How much was it?

I think the same thing .. !

You can find an LT1 all day long for about $1500 complete from intake to oil pan with PCM/harness and all the accessories. If you search around they can be had for under $1K.

A '99+ 5.3 LSx style engine from a GM is also a great choice. Better cylinder heads out of the box and very stout bottom end.

I'm definately going to shut up now....

thanks!

Nice build up by the way.. could not resist posting that. As i see you posting all kinds of crazy questions and comments everywhere.

Thanks a bunch Gary, why exactly did you add another hose attachment to the radiator?

This project is getting really close to done. I fabbed up all new bumpers for the beast over the last couple of weeks, installed the new Diamante seats, and am blacking out the bulk of the chrome. I will splash out on a IH8MUD membership to detail everything that has been done, since this board and you guys have proved invaluable to solving all the little problems along the way. Anticipate pics soon. Cheers, Matt

The xtra radiator fitting was the return line from the rear heater. The water flows like this for the heater. Waterpump to the front heater, back out of the front, to the rear heater, then back up front to the radiator.
