Rigging up my LX for extended camping this year and building a drawer & bed system in the back. My max height for anything under the bed surface is 13". All of the Engel fridges come in around 16" in height. Wondering if anyone is aware of a low height fridge, can't find one in my research. I can fit some coolers in that height, but I'd love to have a 12v fridge in the design.

Dometic/Waeco CD-30... but IMO 30 liters is not very large for extended trips.

Or, Engel and Norcold offer compressor conversion kits (L-shape or I-shape evaporators). Build you own or convert an ice chest into a compressor cooler.

Excellent! This is now on my short list. Only manufacturer doing this style, not one other one fits underneath very well if you want any headroom.

I probably would have gotten the drawer style too if I didn't think they'd use more juice due to dumping the cold air when opened, unlike a top loader. It's kinda hard to get things out of a deep high sided cooler style fridge that's inside of a lifted truck.

would be interesting to build a custom unit with the conversion kit. What I'm thinking building one that slide out of one of the rear passenger doors. Would be good for drinks. :hmm:

Oh damn, I was thinking the same thing last year. I'd love to get my engel to slide out the side, but saw no reasonable way to do it.

And yea, I love those kits. One day I just might build a custom setup. Problem now is that the Engel probably has a 30 year life expectancy.

There is a lot of info on custom fridge construction on boat building sites. The second row foot well area would be an ideal location. Two compartments with hatch style access, one for freezer and one for cooler.

Oh come on now!

Why couldn't they have come out with this a year ago...

STOP TEMPTING ME! :crybaby:
