I stopped at Japanoid on the way home last night to kick some tires. They didnt have any any 60's or 80's, one of the other places in that little automall had a nice looking 80, but asking too much for it.
They did have a nice little Prado they were working on that he showed me, not that I want one, too small. But they had put a 3L head and turbo'd it, nice job.
The plan tomorrow is to see that 60 with the fuzzy blue steering wheel (she actually liked that!) and the 80 they have as well, because it's blue.

Thats all depending on wether or not I can get out of bed. We just finished our annual company softball game. Amazing how a few beer on a sunny day can make you feel 20 again.

theres a beige HDJ81 lifted on MT's at the kia dealership on fraser hwy in surrey. it used to be across the street at applewood motors, but they sat on it for so long beside a maroon HDJ81...i guess they just auctioned/traded it off. from what i remember about it..i was told it had diff lockers on it. but of course many mistake the center diff lock for the fr/rr diff locks. it had a custom badge less grill on it as well as a custom metal box formed non winch bumper on it as well.

its on 'sale' for the usual asking price of 16,900. i bet they paid about 10G's or even less for it...

Only managed to get a look at one 81 today, the '91 at Silk Road. Decent rig, all the req'd engine work has been done (BeB, rad, etc). He also rememeberd some John 'fella from Abbotsford, I wonder if thats a good thing? Karim seems like a nice guy (but then again, have you ever met a used car salesman who wasnt?) When Becky started looking at a 4 door Prado, right away he mentioned the 2lt head problems. But they do offer an extra extended warranty on the heads as well, not that I want a Prado, just felt it needed mentioning.

I did phone about that 80 listed on bc4x4, but of course I forgot the phone number and address by the front door as we left.
I also have a new conspiracy theory. You see, the guy selling this 80 was Rob CersomethingSKI. Yes, you guessed it, another Polish guy named Rob.
I think the Chinese invasion of North America has just been a front, and these Polish guys have been ever so quietly just popping up, but in somewhat alarming numbers now.........

Karim is a sales person but actually he really does believe in the honor thing and knows that it goes a long ways in building a business. I have helped a few of the people he has sold Safaris to. As I have said in the past he is no mechanic and in a way that is an out for him. He use to urge people to get independent inspections of the vehicles before buying. Did you ask him who did the mechanical work? Was it his brother Abdul? In sum, I wouldn't put Karim's business and vehicles in the same class as Waynes and they would probably be a bit below Outback (maybe not that much). I have been hearing reports (besides here on MUD) that Outback has really gone down in quality and service compared to when Mario was an owner.

That's one heck of a "diesel" surcharge. The gassers while they chew thru fuel can be found even newer than a 91 for 5k or less. I can see paying more for cable locked full floater, 12h-t 61... but a turbo diesel 80 for 16-25 is a little high in price.

Basically because clean gassers are soo cheap. I'd rather find a clean LHD gasser and buy a nice certified low KM engine from GandS to go in it. Or install a cummins. I still think it would be cheaper..

I guess it depends how you plan to use. If it's not the DD, and only a weekend warrior then I would consider FZJ80's in the mix too. Work out the month cost structure. With fuel this expensive the prices of low MPG suv's is getting pretty cheap.

i paid $1500 for my fj62 with all the creature comforts , it is a gas sucker but it has a solid frame and its fully loaded , you could find a fj62 , and spring over it like steves 62 thats a nice looking rig :) , that will be in the works down the road once my kids are a bit bigger . the auto tranny is nice to have and compared to the 3b the 3fe is a god !

Jeff's :princess: (aka boss) gave him permission to add one more zero to what your :princess: let you spend. I have the feeling she is expecting the creature comforts of an 81 rather than a bush wacker rig. Still can't figure out her attachment to that fuzzy stearing wheel cover. Must be a story behind it which Jeff isn't telling.:hillbilly:

this one has been for sale in victoria for about a year. i have seen it on the road driving during that time it started out at 16,500 . no relation to seller .
1990 Toyota Landcruiser West Shore: Langford,Colwood,Metchosin,Highlands, Victoria

Enigma.... 16,500 for a 90..... how about 7k for a 97 with lockers https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-t...277-1997-collectors-edition-lc-w-lockers.html

Dollar at par an all...

Serious the diesel 80 prices need to come down a notch. The high prices on diesel 80's are prime example of market differences with the USA.

The 77 looks interesting, those are non turbo'd engines right? Would it be a total slug with the 33's and the extra weight it's packing?

Yep, likely it is a 1HZ. It is a great little indirect injection engine. Which means things like injectors won't cost you an arm and a leg. I think it would be fine on 33s. If not, I have read that it take nicely to an aftermarket / ubuild turbo. Why don't you ask Rosco or Cushers in the diesel or 70 series sections.

Besides the problems Martin had with Tyee, I have hear other things about them getting vehicles registered which should never have passed. You will also remember him trying to sell that lifted 61 (birefly listed here on MUD) which then went to RMI and then to EBI. That should raise a lot of red flags. Although, I did hear Tyee is one of the biggest JDM importer in Canada.

VICCI also had some major problems about two years ago and I heard about accusations of fraud. Not sure how much of it was true, but some sh*t was going on which resulted in a change of staff. They are owned by Express Custom Trailers.

They do have in common lower prices. Still, I would be extra careful with both of them.

The 1HZ is the motor that used to be in Mike McT's truck. He eventually turbo'd it, then killed it. That motor was a workhorse for Mike. He's got a 1HZ-T in it now, says it a beautiful motor and has more get up and go than a turbo'd 1HZ.
