...Something.

The wife & kids want to go camping at Whipsaw with the club this August, but then she realized we don't have the Tacoma anymore (I'm still bitter about that decision).

I can't justify buying a 'cruiser as a daily driver. My 64km daily round trip for work in my 40+ mpg Echo just makes too much sense these days, even though it's boring as hell to drive.

I've been given the go ahead to buy a wagon (not that I needed permission, I wear the damn pants ;)), but something would have to go to make room in the driveway, and it sure as hell ain't gonna be the 45.

I could spend a lot of cash repairing/restoring my 55 that I havent seen in years, but realistically I'm a lazy SOB and would never have something that intensive done in that short of time.:bang:

So with hot blazing sunny weather all around us , it would be a good time to sell my pristine, fuel efficient, rust free fj40.

Seeing as how I don't have such a beast, actually I don't think anyone does, I will be selling my beloved beatup, gas guzzling, rusty, modified '74 fj40.

So the new family rig, be it a 60 series or 80 series, is out there somewhere. I'd love to get one of Outbacks rigs, but i still want to be able to pay my mortgage. The new machine will have to be in great shape, as I will not be hauling my family around in something like I usually drive by myself. So keep your eyes and ears open people if you could, and stay tuned for the events unfolding.

I should add, I won't be looking for a "Stock" rig. I want something as capable as the 40 at least, so that would be lifted and 35's (Marcin, I still have that fish tank.......)

Signed,

Dear Enigma

Smells fishy ...

.... the truck. He popped down around $14,000 on a foreign RHD and doesn't know much about it. The other thing is it has gone from Terra II to a stealership to a private owner and the mailage hasn't change much. PTO winch is cool. The front bar is too short and it should not have passed OOP with it on. If those tires are 35s then the tire carrier won't handle bouncing around in the bush.

I have someone go over it with a fine tooth comb (compression, leak down, oil pressure, inspect one or more injectors, turbo).

My thoughts, don't sell your 40. Back seat for the kids is cheaper. Your V8 40 market has all but dissappeared so now is not a good time to sell. Run the motor on propane. Rent a 'family' truck and do base camp at Lodestone. If you do sell the 40, how about that cable locked 74. Add a spring over and at least 37's, that would be a suitable replacement for what you have :hhmm:.

X2 but get yourself an M101 trailer (for your gear) and a roof top tent on the trailer and you will still be way ahead in the $s game. Then you can forget about the rental truck.

Jeff there are lots to choose from. Save the 40 get a second mortgage. Remeber that guy that was supposed to do our website Kinda looked like Uncle Bill and me , he has that 61 that is cable locked , nice truck, I am sure you could get it for less than 16,000 and its all done and maintained. That thing will last a lifetime if you keep it from rusting

I tossed an ad up on bc4x4, secretly hoping to scare anyone away. I don't want to sell anything, just need room in the driveway before I get forced to move to Surrey ;)

A 74 is still too small, for my needs anyways. And I'm not a big fan of the 70 series body lines.
But now if a hj47 came wandering along, who could say no to that? I love the look and feel of the 40 series.

Budget wise I'm not sure yet. A 25-30k Outback rig is out of sight for me though.

I did email a 'fella about a very nicely equipped 61 for sale that was on craigslist, but just got a reply that it was sold already.

The hunt is on, so if anyone spots something interesting, let me know please.

Jeff, I get around the Craiglists far too much so will keep an eye out. Would help to know exactly what you are looking at. What's your price range? Is it diesel only or are you okay on a carburated gasser (easy propane)? Would you go into the US for one? What series: 60,62,80, 100?

As for the 47, I haven't seen one for sale anywhere. Of course, you could always consider a ...:ban:. :grinpimp:

Price range..good question. Probably around 16k MAX, hopefully a lot less.

Turbo diesel only, and automatic as it might turn into the future daily driver for the wife as we phase out the Sienna....possibly.
Which funny enough would leave room in the driveway for the 40 :)

60 series and 80 series I'm looking at, not interested in a 100. :steer:

What about the HJ61 Dan was selling: https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-jdm-parts/201202-hj61-feeler.html? It is an auto.

Looking at your diesel/auto criteria, you pretty much will be just looking at JDM. Is the boss okay with RHD?

I havent seen or heard much of that one, looking for something cleaner and not so low slung. The usual stuff you know, all the goodies, immaculate shape etc etc and dirt cheap..the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow..that kinda crap :)

I've talked her into it. It won't be soccer SUV for a little while, so will give her a chance to get used to driving on the "right" side.

Interested in importing yourself? I have had a few dealerships in Japan recommended to me. Auctions I hear are a bit of a crap shoot unless you have someone in Japan to inspect the vehicles.

Also take a look at the VX here: Canadian Importer of JDM Vehicle Diesel Delica,4X4 Delica, Land Cruiser, Pajero, Skyline, Supra other Sports, Vans and SUVs from Japan to Canada (I can tell you more about them as I bought from them). And this one here: IMPORTER OF LAND CRUISER IN CANADA, LAND CRUISER HDJ81, HZJ77, HZJ73, PZJ77, LJ78. Seems to have become an active participant on IVOAC lately.

I have enough gray hairs already. I'm paranoid as hell about sending someone overseas money for a purchase based on some total strangers suggestion and internet pictures. I'd prefer to kick the tires in person.

Does the fuzzy blue steering wheel on that 60 cost extra? :) That one "looks" good, But I think I've seen that fuzzy blue steering wheel advertised before?

Karim is from a place where that is still cool.

Martin's Delica idea is a good one. There is a lot of parts support for them now. I was actually looking at them before the Safari was presented to me. It was only $1,500 for a comparable milage Delica and about $6,000 less than the comparable 81 or 61. Wasn't a tough decision and the boss liked the Safari better.

I was looking at Delica's before we bought the Sienna, but at the time couldn't talk the :princess: into it. And I still point them out to her, but her response still is :meh: at the best of times.

They are quite cool, but I'm a landcruiser guy, and the :princess: has always liked 60's (and 80's) so that's the plan.
