I need to buy an 80 for my company for our next R&D new product development vehicle.
If anyone knows of one for sale I would really appreciate the lead.
I am looking for one in as good a condition as I can and hopefully with factory lockers

Thanks everyone!

Dylan

An ICON 80!? Wow, that would be sweet!

How about a 'loaner' 80? HA!

I'll keep ears and eyes open.

. . . oh, and welcome to the Forum :flipoff2:

You can borrow my 80 anytime to develop shocks for. I had Icons on my Tundra and they were awesome.

Are you guys doing R&D for a kit similar to the Rubicon project you did? Or something with the new VS Series shocks? Regardless, I'd be interested in a 2.5" shock for my 80. I occationally use my 80 for lite prerunning and as a Chase vehicle. The OME suspension does okay, but a progressive rate spring and custom valved shocks would be much nicer!

Uh Oh!! Icon 80! I am going to be a broke Mo Fo! Welcome to SoCal 80's! I was wondering when Icon products would be available for our rigs.

That's exactly what we want to do. We will be developing dual rate springs and VS 2.5" reservoir shocks with bump zones. We will also be doing a heavier dual rate expedition rear option. I also want to look into the front and rear geometry and possibly a radius arm to 3 or 4 link conversion

Sometimes we do use outside vehicles for R&D but having our own for long term ride tuning always comes out better. We also want a vehicle to go out with for these runs and although we have a Jeep JK I’ve always been a die hard Toyota guy

What lift heights would most of you be interested in? Other products?

Agreed, having your own rig for long term R&D would be easier. However, If you have BETA versions of the kit, and are looking for additional test vehicles let me know.

I think the majority of guys here are running anywhere from 2"-4" lifts on their rigs, with 3"-4" being optimal. With 3"-4" lifts, 35" tires can easily be run without any major clearance issues.

When we have some beta kits ready we will be looking for some socal guys!

just a thought...is there any way to address the vibrations caused by lifting these vehicles and changing their ds angles, etc.

Rear drive line angles are easy to adress because there is no steering castor that has to be maintained and adjustable links can be used to change the pinion angle.
On the front we will have to see???

07-Up FJ Cruiser Billet Aluminum Rear Trailing Arm Kit - ICON Vehicle Dynamics

These are the ones we make for the FJ Cruiser.
One guy put them on an 80 but he had to weld a reducer bushing in the frame to go to a smaller bolt but the length is correct.

I would agree on a 3-4" lift for 35" tires since many are using 80's for BAJA, and or expedition type workload, others that are crawling are fabing up there own junk or combinations of kits that make them less roadworthy. So an alternative to what is currently available (slee, OME, MAF, FOR) that is progressive would be good.

I'd love a 1-2" Icon kit for my South America trip. I have the OME stock height kit on right now and the back is sagging pretty good with the bumper, RTT, fridge, etc.

Hmmm... I'll be watching this as well. I chatted with you guys at Tierra-Del-Sol about this, and you guys mentioned it was in planning. Nice to see that it looks to be progressing. Keep in mind us 80 series guys are a very diverse group. Some like a lower lift to fit between 33's and 35's, and others want to fit 35"+. Price is also a driver here. Value and performance are the key in the 80 series market from what I see here. From the OME zero height lift, to the new guys at Ironman, to Slee, and Frankies Offroad, the prices, options and quality are already pretty broad. It will be nice to see what you guys are planning to bring to the table. I am glad I haven't committed to a kit yet, that's for sure.

Oh and WELCOME :flipoff2:

Did you guys find a rig to start on yet? Do you guys have a target time frame to get a kit out?

 any news to report from IVD?
