Looking for help with shipping., anyone know someone good that wouldn't mind a challenging job? I've got a donor body shell that I need shipped, just the shell, no frame, no axles, no wheels, no drivetrain. I have a loader to get on the trailer and a forklift to get it off, also dollies. The other problem is that it is in a somewhat remote location and needs to be transported 3,000 miles so I'm having trouble finding a carrier. I've been working with some brokers but I keep getting nowhere. I've started the whole process of posting to the load board again through a broker but its been difficult to get something solid, lots of promises but no results. All suggestion welcome.

I ended up finding a carrier that would do it for $3k, so $1 per mile which isn't bad from the other quotes I got. My advice is that if you have a non-operable that is out of the way is to get it first towed to the closest city with an interstate and then have a broker post you to the load board. Carriers are much more likely to take a job when they can do a quick stop and transfer the non-operable vehicle from a flat bed to an open carrier close and are close to an interstate.

For WAY less than 3k you could, 1. buy a mig welder/gas/wire/cart/supplies (est $800.00-$1000) 2. Get some lessons/watch some youtube videos/read the welder instructions. You can learn to mig weld in a day and a floor is the perfect place to practice...have crappy welds/make mistakes. 3. Buy some 18g mild steel (from an outlet/supplier not Lowes or Home Depot) $100-200. Buy an angle grinder and some grinding pads and 4 1/2inch cutting wheels $100.

I'd like to learn to weld at some point, always cheaper to do it yourself, just got a long list of stuff I already want to do the cruiser. The frame is coming off for sandblasting and new paint, I'll be re-gearing the diffs, swapping the trans, pulling the heads, hew hubs, redo the brakes, all new lines and hose, refurb gas tank, the list goes on. Maybe the next project I'll get into welding if the body isn't too tore up, I'm just at my limit on this one for the moment, maybe I'll have time to learn once this project is complete.
