I am at the point in reassembly of the drivers side knuckle of reinstalling the locking hub assembly. The first part of the hub ought to just slide over the axle and onto the bolts, ready to be bolted down. For some reason the splines will not line up. I have tried both hubs, niether goes on. Both will slide right on to the other side (still awaiting installation). Have I or the previous owner damaged the splines? What could be causing this?

Here is a photo. The hub refuses to go over the spindle stub.

Are these the hubs you took off of this truck? If so, then you might need to check for any tiny burrs on the axle shaft or in the hub.

If they are not the hubs that you took off this truck, then I would count the splines, you might have solid axle and IFS hubs mixed up...

I removed a set of Warn hubs. These are the replacements. They both go on the other side without difficulty. I will count the splines. I will check for burrs. What would I do about burrs or dented splines?

...except that he says they will both go right on to the other side. So he has to have the correct hubs.

Is this an IFS or solid axle setup?

There has to be something buggered on the splines. Unless I'm missing something...

Interesting.

Take some brake cleaner and clean off all the grease and goop, get a good look at the splines. If there's one that's boogered, you can clean it up with a triangular file.
